Students from Hensall Public School participate in the first-ever Music Monday.

Exeter couple get award for service

EXETER — On April 26 Ervin
Doris Sillery received an
award for 20 years of volun-
teer service to the Canadian
Cancer Society at the annu-
al Volunteer Recognition
Event in Mitchell.
As part of their volunteer
work, both Ervin and Doris
drove cancer patients from numerous
places to the Cancer Centre in St.
Joseph's Hospital in London.
Ervin started volunteering by deliver-
ing bulletins to churches around the
South Huron area, and Doris started by
canvassing and collecting on the streets.
Later, they both drove patients to and
and
from London.
Ervin also worked as a dispatcher.
Sometimes he would drive five days a
week for five weeks in a row, an experi-
ence he said was "quite tir-
ing."
Both Ervin and Doris
are cancer survivors, and
have lost parents to the dis-
ease. They now have three
grown children.
The two actually
reached the 20 year mark last year, and
have since resigned from their position.
"If I was still able to I would," said
Ervin. "The need is still there."
Ervin and Doris both said it's an hon-
our to receive the 20 year award and to
have volunteered for so long.

SAINTSBURY - On Monday Mrs. Joyce
Dickey visited with Hugh and Hazel for
tea.
Thursday evening April 28th, 2005
Heather MacGillivray,
Suzanne Davis, Margaret
Carroll and Hazel Davis
attended the A.C.W. meeting at St.
Stephen's Stratford with Hazel as the
guest speaker, the topic "History of the
Women's Auxiliary to the present
Anglican Church Women 1886-2005."
Ladies present represented St. James'
Stratford, St. Paul's Stratford along with
St. Patrick's. A beautiful lunch followed
and a time of fellowship. Hazel was
thanked and presented with a gift of
money for The Diocese of Huron
Anglican Church Women, the fund of my
choice in my name. Hazel expressed her
thanks to everyone, and for making my
last engagement as Perth Deanery
A.C.W. Representative so special. Spring
Deanery meeting in Fordwich May 11,
2005 is my final meeting after 3 years
representing Perth Deanery. Offering
was being taken to the Cathedral on
Saturday for Thank offering.
On Sat., April 30, 2005 Margaret
Carroll and Hazel Davis attended the
Annual Conference of Anglican Church
Women of the Diocese of Huron held at
St. Paul's Cathedral in London with
Theme of the Year 2005 - "Holy Spirit,
Friend and Guide." Over
200 ladies registered for
the very successful day.
Pastor Sheilah Fletch was the guest
speaker and gave a very inspirational
message based on the theme.
The Very Rev'd Terry Dance - Dean St.
Paul's Cathedral was celebrant for the
Holy Eucharist. Rev'd Karen Nelles, ACW
Chaplain presided over Morning Prayer
Service and conducted the installation of
officers followed by presentation of cer-
tificates for retiring council members,
Hazel received her 3 year certificate. A
marvellous day.
Courtney MacGillivray is spending the
weekend in Ottawa attending a friends
wedding.
Ron and Margaret Carroll attended the
Exeter Jrs. Baseball game on Sunday
held at the Alvin Willert Park, grandsons
Matthew and Mitchell Iredale are play-
ers.

Good attendance at Dining for Seniors

EXETER — Ten members of Hurondale
W.I. attended the "Dining For Seniors"
dinner to start their April meeting.
"Dining For Seniors" is a community ser-
vice under the direction of Faye Skinner,
where a noon meal is served monthly for
a nominal fee to all seniors who wish to
attend. After a delicious dinner, a short
programme takes place and this month it
was a penny sale.
Following the lovely dinner,
the group traveled to
Lorraine Alexander's home
where the meeting was being
held. V.P. Mabel Hern opened the
meeting and the Institute Ode and the
Mary Stewart Collect was recited. Roll
Call took the form of all members paying
their annual fees. Lois McFalls gave her
"Caring" report and Marian Dougall
reported on the April 4th board meeting.
The District Annual is being held in
Crediton on May 19th and the theme this
year is "Sharing our Heritage." The dis-
trict Picnic is July 5 with Grand Bend as
hosts. Everyone is to bring a priced arti-
cle for the Farmers' Market. Grand Bend
is sponsoring a bus trip on September
17th to attend "Quilts, Quills and Bears."
Hurondale made donations to W.I. annu-
al projects. Secret Pals were revealed
and new ones selected for next year.
The meeting being concluded, the
Annual Meeting took over and reports
were given by those required to do so.
Marian Dougall then called upon the
nominating committee of June Stewart
and Gladys Richardson to read the new
slate of officers for 2005 - 06 and it was
accepted. Marian Dougall then proceed-
ed with the installation of officers as fol-
lows:

al village -wide yard and garage sale on
Sat., May 28, rain or shine.
Enjoy the firemen's breakfast,
children's rides, bargains galore
and every street has a sale.
Hensall spring fair will be held June 10,
11. Photo contest categories are as fol-
lows: Nature and Landscape; Travel;
Animals; Farming; People. Photos may
be black and white, or colour. Deadline
for entries is 11 a.m. on Fri., June 10 at
the Hensall Community Centre.
Maximum print size is 8"x11". No com-
posite photos, retouched prints or trans-
parencies (slides) or previous entries
accepted.
At Hensall United Church, the service
began with an organ prelude with Bill
Gibson playing the organ. Helen MacLean
welcomed everyone. Linda and Jerry
Traquair were the ushers.
Pastor Fred Darke read the announce-
ments. Judi Walker was the reader and
also lit the Christ candle. Scripture read-
ings from Acts 17, Psalm 66, and John 14
were read.
Pastor Darke's message was "We will
know of His continuing presence with
us." The service closed with the singing of
"Spirit of the Living God," commissioning,
benediction and choral amen.
On Mon., May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Hensall
United Church there
will be "Spring
Fashions au chocolat"
with the hottest styles, colours and fab-
rics served up with decadent chocolate
desserts and coffee (fashions by
Optionelle). Tickets are $5; for ticket

The Hensall village -wide yard sale will
be held on Sat., May 28. Anyone wishing
to contribute articles suitable for the yard
sale can bring their donations to Hensall
United Church where they will be stored
