LONDON — Ten eight
and nine year old local
hockey players tried their
hand at three -on -three
hockey this past weekend
at the Western Fair Centre
in London.
The team finished the
weekend with five wins
and a record of 34 goals
for and five goals against.
In round robin play, the
boys met with a hard skat-
ing team of seven and
eight year olds that chal-
lenged the locals in the 5 -
0 match.
In the second game a
strong St. Marys goal -
tender kept the 30 minute
none -stop game close at 3-
1.
Game three was a lop
sided match -up with the
Blazers only managing
one shot on net and the
locals netting 15.
In first place after round
robin play, the locals
would face forth place St.
Marys.
The team came out
strong and again the St.
Marys netminder made
some great saves to keep
the game close.
After the 30 minutes of
skating, passing and
shooting hard the locals
topped St. Marys 5-0.
The final game was
against St. Thomas, who
start the scoring early.
The locals found them-
selves down by two before
getting into the game.
The team planned the
attack on St. Thomas, but
again strong goaltending
stopped some great scor-
ing chances.
With a little luck going
their way the locals start-
ed to gain some momen-
tum, and netted two to tie
the game.
Local goaltender Cole
Willemsen made some key
saves and the offence
managed to score the go
ahead goal with 10 min-
utes to play.
The team was able to
hold off the St.Thomas
players, and finished the
final with a 6-4 score.
The team received great
defensive play from Ben
VanGerwen, Cam Quick
and Jake Caldwell.
Cole Willemsen played
awesome in net and
earned three shut -outs.
Leading the attack was
Derick Elliott with 12
goals, Nathan Templeman
with eight, Brock Horner
fired seven, Andrew
Hodgert had five and
