Lawn bowls Volunteer of the Year
By Pat Bolen
T1MES-ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — A local lawn
bowler has been recog-
nized as a volunteer of
the year by the Ontario
Lawns Bowls Association
(O.L.B.A).
Peter McFalls was rec-
ognized by the O.L.B.A for
his over 20 years of work
with the Exeter Lawn
Bowling Club.
It is the first year for the
award which allows each
O.L.B.A club to recognize
their most outstanding
member, and was pre-
sented to McFalls April 23
at the annual meeting of
Ontario Lawn Bowls in
Brampton.
McFalls has been a vol-
unteer with the Exeter
club for over 20 years at
every level, including
president twice, after first
taking up the sport in
1967.
In 1982, he began orga-
nizing and running tour-
naments in Exeter,
arranging sponsorship,
maintenance and prizes.
He has also arranged
for several upgrades to
the club in the past two
decades.
McFalls said he didn't
know his son Shawn had
nominated him for the
award.

Returning from a trip to
Australia, McFalls said he
was surprised to find a
letter waiting, informing
him of the award.
McFalls said the club is
doing well with a list of
around a dozen new
potential members, and
its first weekend of the
season will be May 24.
In his years of service,
McFalls said he never
thought about being rec-
ognized.
" It is rewarding to be
nominated, and then
selected is even greater."
