For year-long courses in grades 9 and 10, this is the second offi- cial report card mark, and it is the mid-term mark for second semester cours- es. Consequently, all stu- dents should have com- pleted a Response Form as part of the report card. They are required to com- plete this form, sign it, and bring it home for a parent signature. We would like the signed Response Forms returned by Tues., May 17. We are now headed into the final eight weeks of the school year, and students should be getting ready for culminating activities and final assessments. The provincial curriculum requires that 30 per cent of the mark for all courses be assigned to final assessments. Rather than assign the entire 30 per cent to a final exam, teachers in many cases will assign a final project (culminating activity) for part of the 30 per cent, along with a final exam for the remainder. In accordance with the provincial guidelines, all of these final assess- ments must be completed in the last six weeks of the school year. As a result, the final portion of the school year is a sig- nificant time of year for assess- ment and evaluation. However, it is also a busy time of year for other things, such as extracur- ricular activities, summer job searches and the start- up of community sports. As well, the days get longer and the tempera- tures get warmer at this time of year (as we saw a couple of weeks ago), making it harder for stu- dents to focus on school work. So, it is important that students plan their time wisely and make sure they leave themselves suf- ficient time to complete their homework and give their best effort to these JEFF REABURN PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE POLICE BRIEF Hensall sign damaged HENSALL — Huron OPP report a "Welcome to Hensall" sign located on Hensall Road, east of London Road on the north side, has been damaged to the tune of $3,000. The final exams start the week of June 20 and the exam schedule should be published some time in the next two weeks. Students who have exam conflicts should see Mr. McEwan as soon as possi- ble to make alternate arrangements. I would also like to remind everyone that our annual school show is this week. This year's produc- tion, "Return to Eden, 2048," is a musical come- dy written and directed by Ms. Glenda Burrell, and it runs from Wed., May 4 to Fri., May 6 at 7:30 p.m. We encourage you to come out and enjoy the wonderful talents of our student performers. Tickets cost $6 and are available at Village Vines and here at the school. As part of Education Week, the Avon Maitland District School Board is conducting an online par- ent survey. The survey is available online until Friday of this week and parents can get access to it through the South Huron District High School Web site or directly at https://epaper. amdsb. ca/q uaskformserver/Secondar y_Parent_2005. We encourage you to take some time in the next couple of days to complete this survey. Finally, I would like to thank Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church for their extremely generous dona- tion of $50, 000 to our music program for the purchase of new instru- ments and equipment for the school bands. Thanks to their generosity, we will be able to overhaul many of our existing instru- ments, which are almost 20 years old, and replace many more that are past the point of repairs. As you know, we are very proud of our bands and choir, and it is rewarding to know our music program is so high- ly regarded in the commu- nity. On behalf of Mr. Robilliard, Ms. Hollestelle, and the students in the music program, I would like to thank Trivitt for this wonderful donation. We truly appreciate this gift and will see that the money is put to good use. Get a mortgage as unique as you are.
