Ready for school production
By AIIy MacGregor and
Jesiqua Rapley
SPECIAL TO THE T -A
EXETER — As the first
week of May fast
approaches, a group of
students at South Huron
District High School are
busy preparing them-
selves for an event that
is as physically and emo-
tionally draining as it is
exhilarating.
These are the thespi-
ans of the school, and
the event for which they
are preparing is the
annual school
show.
This year the
show is
"Return to
Eden," a play
written and
directed by South
Huron's own resi-
dent drama teacher, Ms.
Glenda Burrell. "Return
to Eden" is a musical -
comedy written about
the District of Huron in
the years 2047 and
2048, and it features
singing, choreographed
dancing, live music pro-
vided by a portion of
South Huron District
High School's band (con-
ducted by Mr.
Robilliard), as well as a
little acting of course!
Amidst all the fun,
there is also an impor-
tant message to be
found, which Ms. Burrell
hopes will have a deep
impact upon our school
and community.
As long-time members
of the school show, we
can honestly say we have
never before been a part
of a play like "Return to
Eden." The show is our
first real "musical the-
atre" experience since
entering Grade 9 at
South Huron three years
ago, and it is also a show
we feel the community of
South Huron can most
closely relate to.
Although many people
could easily relate to last
year's "The Farm Show,"
it is obvious that the
community of South
Huron is the true inspi-
ration for this year's
show.
With references
to everything
from local
restaurants
to Hay
Swamp, the-
atre -goers may
recognize
more than just
the actors onstage when
they come to see "Return
to Eden" May 4, 5 and 6.
Since October, over 70
students and staff mem-
bers have worked tire-
lessly to produce the
show, and as actors in
"Return to Eden," we
can safely say it has not
been an easy task.
However, we have taken
it in stride and have had
a lot of fun along the
way. The rehearsal
process is always
demanding, but the
result makes it all worth-
while.
After the final perfor-
mance, you look back
and think about the
great
people you had the
chance to work with, the
long rehearsal hours on
nights when all you
wanted to do was go
home, and the laughter
you constantly shared
with 50 of your peers
from all walks of life.
Tickets for "Return to
Eden" can be bought
from Jean Mason in the
high school office (235-
0880) for $6.
The play is definitely
an experience you will
never forget, and it is
strongly suggested you
come out and enjoy this
once in a lifetime theatri-
cal performance.
After you see the show
you will be able to hon-
estly say, "That charac-
ter is just like I was in
high school," and hope-
fully all your good mem-
ories from your own
teenage will come flood-
ing back.

Jesiqua Rapley are stu-
dents at South Huron
District High School.
