After joining the Cyclones, Hartman saw the team slip from first to seventh before the Cyclones regrouped for their playoff run. After defeating the Owen Sound Greys in s i x games, t h e Cyclones were unable to advance to the OHA Junior B final. The Cyclones had an 0-3 record in the Sutherland Cup against Chatham and Thorold. Hartman said at the beginning of the season he planned to stay with the Hawks for the year, hoping to help the team to another champi- onship. But after being seen by the Cyclones general manager Neil McKeown at a game in Parkhill, Hartman was asked by Hawks general manager John Rasenberg if he wanted to practice with the Cyclones and Hartman soon signed with the team. Describing himself as a defensive defence - man, Hartman said it was a huge adjustment moving up to Junior B. "You have to move the puck a lot quicker. In Junior D you have a lit- tle time to think about your first option. This kind of hockey you have to go with your first option or there's not going to be another one."
