A euchre party sponsored by the Board of Stewards at the Granton - Wesley United church was well attended on Monday evening, April 11. At the Granton - Wesley United Church on Sun., April 17, Lay Pastor Val Hodgins led the service and the message was entitled "Gathered in Christ." The lessons were from John 10 and Acts 2. Adam Dodds lit the Christ candle and Mary Waters gave the minute for missions report. The Ministry of Music was "God is My Shepherd." St. Paul's Anglican At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday (Easter IV), April 17, Rev. Dalice Sim celebrat- GRANT ed the holy eucharist. The message was about acknowledging Jesus as the Good Shepherd. The lessons were read by Sarah Blackler. UCW The Granton -Wesley general UCW meeting was held at the church on Tuesday evening, April 12 commencing with refreshments and a social time. Unit 1 was in charge of the program when Ruth Cook and Lillus Riddell gave a pre- sentation on their trip to Africa recently. President Margaret Bryan chaired the meet- ing and opened with a reading, Wooden Shoe Philosophy. Cathie Westman was the secre- tary. Thanks was expressed to everyone for their help over the past several months. Business included several upcom- ing events. Granton -Wesley UCW will be hosting the UCW Presbyterial on April 25. Also Stephanie Mills, Erica Riddell and Elizabeth Herbert will be attending the youth and children programs at ON NEWS Celebrations at Saintsbury church By Hazel Davis SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT SAINTSBURY - On Wednesday, Hazel Davis attended the April meet- ing of the ACW Council of the Diocese of Huron at Huron Church House. Rev. Bill Graham gave an interesting talk of the upcoming Children's Festival, Sat., May 7, to be held at St. James Westminster in London. This was my last coun- cil meeting after com- pleting three years as Perth Deanery Representative; Helen James from St. James, Stratford will begin in May following the Annual Conference at St. Paul's Cathedral, April 30. On Friday, Hugh and Hazel joined a large crowd from Lucan- Biddulph for a retire- ment party honouring Joan Goddard after her 21 years as deputy -clerk treasurer and tax collec- tor. All our best wishes go out to you Joan from all of us here in the com- munity of Saintsbury. On Saturday the Davis' attended the 50th anniversary celebrations honouring friends Bill and Betty Johnson held at the Georgian Yacht Club in Owen Sound hosted by their family. A large crowd of Johnson and Fairbairn relatives along with friends from Centralia, Exeter, Stoney Creek, London and area enjoyed the happy occa- sion. Saturday evening Hugh and Hazel attended a 60th surprise birthday celebration for friend Erwin Plested held at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Steve Herbert's home in SAINTSBURY NEWS Thomas. A wonderful surprise and a time to visit with friends from many years. St. Patrick's celebrated Evening Prayer fourth Sunday of Easter, April 17. Service was led by Corbin MacGillivray assisted by members Suzanne and Hazel Davis with a Scripture and prayers. Focus and message was given followed by prayers and recessional hymn. A number of announce- ments were given and upcoming events and spring cleaning were dis- cussed. Bob MacGillivray has returned home from a working holiday in Florida. Clandeboye WI Clandeboye Women's Institute (WI) met for their annual meeting on Wed., April 13 at the home of Barbara Carter when the roll call was answered with the paying of fees. Annual reports were given by Betty Coughlin, Carolyn Hardy, Marilyn Dixon, Lena Hardy, Betty McIntyre and Barbara Carter. Gladys Cunningham was the secre- tary and McIntyre chaired the meeting. Plans were finalized for the dessert euchre on April 19. Carter gave an outline of a tour to Dorchester on May 3 which she will convene. The officers for 2005-06 were installed and the volunteer hours were discussed. Ruth Hill and Cunningham served refreshments, assisted by the host- ess.
