LUCAN — The pie -making assem-
bly line moves quickly as VON volun-
teers prepare hundreds of fruit pies
for the annual spring fundraiser.
Seven hundred miniature pies
have been pre -sold, a profit around
the $1,100 mark.
Spring and fall pie campaigns
started more than a decade ago and
have expanded .
Originally, only meat pies were
sold. This year's batch comes from
Zurich's Jerry Raider. Fruit pies
were added to the list about three
years ago. It's the same price for
every pie — $2.50.
Money raised will be put towards
VON senior support programs like
Meals on Wheels, exercise classes,
friendly visits and foot care clinics.
VON gets about 50 percent of its
funding from the government and
must come up with the rest on its
own.
The agency has other fundraisers
as well: a spring dance, silent auc-
tion and the VON Great Community
Walk coming up Aug. 28.
The VON north central region
office is located on Main Street in
Lucan. It services 630 clients and
has more than 130 volunteers.

VON's services or to become a vol-
unteer, call 227-4546.
