THEY HAVE A MESSAGE TO GET ACROSS AND THEY COME UP WITH SO MANY NEAT AND CREATIVE WAYS TO DO IT! THE RECIPE FOR THIS WEEK COMES FROM A TEACHER OF JOSHUA WHEN HE WAS IN EARLY PRIMARY. THEY WERE LEARNING ABOUT HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SNACKS. IT WAS A HANDS ON DEMONSTRATION THAT ENDED UP BEING VERY GOOD IN SPITE OF THE MESS OF GRADE ONES IN THE KITCHEN. CHEWY GRANOLA BARS 2/3 cup brown sugar 2/3 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup corn syrup 1/2 cup melted butter . 2 tsp vanilla • 3 cups oats (rolled or quick cooking) 1/3 cup wheat germ 2Tbsp sesame seeds OPTIONS: (all, some or none) 1 cup chips (chocolate, carob, peanut butter, butterscotch) 1/2 cup raisins or dates 1/2 cup coconut 1/2 cup chopped nuts or sunflower seeds In a large bowl combine brown sugar, peanut butter, corn syrup, butter and vanilla. Blend well. Stir in oats, wheat germ and sesame seeds. Add other options if desired. Mix well. Press into greased 9 by 13 pan and bake in a preheated 350 oven for 15-20 minutes or till light brown.
