The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the biggest winner to date with more than $11,000 in donations. (photos/sub- mitted) By Stephanie Mandziuk TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — For almost 35 years Bob Reynolds has been reaching out to help others by raising money for charity. It all started in 1971 when he joined the Exeter Kinsmen Club. Reynolds was a member for 17 years until the local chapter folded. One day, while working at the Co-op gas bar, he was told by his boss that they needed a Santa and he was the number one choice. The next year it was the same thing all over again. Reynolds was reluctant at first but soon grew into the role because of the kids. "That's the best part" he says, "the kids getting excited." His wife Wanda doesn't mind. "She made my new Santa suit. She washes it up and makes sure its ready," he says. LOBO SAND & GRAVEL Muddy Driveway? Every year Reynolds appears in the Exeter Santa Claus parade and at other holiday functions. He accepts donations for his work and hands the money over to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It's a charity he first supported as a member of the Kinsmen Club. So far Reynolds has raised $11,000 dollars and it doesn't stop here. He is also a supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron through the annual Bowl-a-thon. Reynolds has been col- lecting pledges for 10 years. In 2004 he raised $1,200 and in 2005 his contribution jumped to $1,300. On June 1, 2005 Reynolds will take on another role — President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 167. He is now the first vice presi- dent. Reynolds is humble about his fundraising efforts and community involvement. His family and friends are the ones who recognize him as a hero with heart. Hats off to Bob Reynolds for making a difference in the lives of others. Reynolds has been playing Santa for more than a decade. He collects donations and hands them over to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In this 2003 photo Reynolds holds his grandchildren Wyatt and Ashlynn Gower.
