Recently, the choir sang for Exeter's seniors at their Dining for Seniors meal. They've been prac- ticing a repertoire of old favourites along with a few seasonal songs. Belva Fuss, volunteer pianist helps put the choir through their paces at the bi-weekly practices. Residents appreciated the beautiful Easter pro- gram performed March 20 by musicians Tom and Annual Stanley canoe rally this Sunday By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA — The 20th annual Stanley canoe rally hap- pens this Sun., April 10. Registration is from 11:30 to 12:30; the fee is $20 per canoe which includes one poker hand and one chance at a new canoe. Free hats will be given out to the first 100 people. There will be prizes for the best poker hands, addition- al prizes and also a food booth. You must be 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult and everyone in the canoe must wear life jackets. Get your canoes out and plan to do this five mile run on the beautiful Bayfield River from Tyndall's Bridge to the Bridge in Varna. The shufflers met for their last shuffling day for the season last Thursday and the top four shufflers were Anne Drew 302, Anna Keys 266, Eleanor McAsh 253, and Elmer Hayter 236. There were 17 shufflers in all. UCW are reminded of the invitation to Kippen UCW Thank Offering on April 12 with guest speaker Trish McGregor. Looking ahead Varna residents are planning a Varna -wide yard sale the weekend of May 21. The Varna pork barbecue will be held June 15 at Varna Complex. Robert and Darlene Doupe of St. Marys are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Deborah Lynn to Mark Jonathan Russell, son of Jim and Verla Russell, Exeter. The Sunday afternoon program featured inspi- rational stories, singing by the residents and music by Tom and Rose. Gladys and Her Merrymakers provided musical entertainment for the birthday party held Thursday evening March 24. Residents cele- brating birthdays were Lylyan Greb, Hazel Corbett, Virginia Klopp, Beth Knox, Marjorie Carey and Winnifred Homuth. Queensway was pleased to host the recent Caring With Confidence series presented by Maggie Brennan, public educator for the Huron County Alzheimer Society. Much valuable information was shared with those in attendance and several commented that they found the series quite helpful. Hensall Legion women provided prizes and assistance at bingo each Monday in March and the Hensall Presbyterian women will sponsor April Brook johns Happy 1st Birthday on April 8 bingos. Residents have also benefitted from church services, breakfast group, manicures, massage therapy with Lori RMT, music therapy with Lisa Stewart, games, baking, coffee and current events, and exercises in recent weeks.
