Ringette player on Team
Ontario for Nationals

CENTRALIA — A local
ringette player is on her
way to Fredricton to play
in the Canadian
Nationals.
Melanie Smith -Lalonde
left for New Brunswick
this week after her
Stratford Huron Perth
team won gold in the
Tween AA provincials in
Ottawa March 10-13.
Stratford went unde-
feated in the tournament
with wins over Gloucester
6-3, Nepean 3-1, Ottawa
3-2, Whitby 4-0
Mississauga 8-2 and West
Ottawa 6-0.
They won the gold
medal with a 4-0 win,
again over West Ottawa.
Smith -Lalonde, who
describes herself as
defensive player, said she
was happy with her play
in the tournament and is
looking forward to the
Nationals April 1-3.
According to Smith -
Lalonde, her consistency
has improved in the last
year, as well as her skat-
ing and says she is a little
more aggressive this year.
It was a successful year
overall for Stratford
which won gold at tour-
naments in London and
Cambridge, as well as sil
ver at Waterloo and
Gloucester.
It is the first time for a
local ringette player to
attend the Nationals and
Smith -Lalonde said it is
prestigious just being on
Team Ontario.

Jets lead Monkton Wildcats 2-1

LUCAN — With two of
their best games of the
year according to Lucan
Ilderton Jets general
Manager Rob Andrews,
the Jets have taken a 2-
1 lead in their series
against the Monkton
Wildcats.
The Jets tied the series
1-1 March 24 in
Monkton with a 13-2
pounding of the
Wildcats.
Lucan Ilderton was led
by four goals from Rob
Silver and four points
from Todd Hunt.
Greg Henderson and
Corey Smith each had a
pair with singles from
Mark Phillips, Andy
Marshall, Jason Wilson,
Craig Black and Adam
Thompson.
The Jets outshot the
Wildcats by a 49-21
margin.
Saturday night in
Lucan the Jets rolled to a
7-1 win after taking an
lead with a pair in the
first from Silver.
Other scorers for the
Jets were Matt Munro,
Hunt, Mike
Jaremchenko, Mark
Phillips and Scott
Phillips
Lucan Ilderton outshot
Monkton 39-24.
The series will resume
Friday night in Monkton
at 8:30 p.m., with game
four April 3 in Lucan at
7:30 p.m.
Andrews said Monkton
didn't quit but the Jets
kept forcing them and
eventually wore them
down.

The Exeter Novice C won the gold medal at the Western Regional Championship
Tournament on the weekend and also won the silver medal in Huron Perth League
