Police briefs
SOUTH HURON — A 41 -
year -old man from South
Huron has been arrested
and charged with assault
following an incident
March 25.
Police were called to a
residence on Morrison
Line in South Huron to
learn two people had con-
sumed alcohol earlier in
the day.
The two later argued
over what police say was
a discussion about a new
boyfriend. The situation
escalated to a physical
altercation and a 42 -year-
old female suffered facial
and upper body injuries.
HENSALL — Someone
entered the concession
booth at Hensall Arena
on Oxford Street and
stole $320.00 from the
cash box.
According to police, the
theft occurred between
March 13-18.
The arena manager told
police the building was
entered during daylight
hours when nothing was
locked.

Have you examined your skin blemishes or
moles lately? It's a good idea to look for any
abnormalities. Use the "ABCD" system:
Asymmetry: not the same on both sides; Border
is irregular; Colour is unusual (brown, tan, red,
white, black, blue); Diameter is larger than a pencil eraser. Get it
checked by your doctor if you meet any of these criteria.
Some people say "I'm allergic to penicillin" but it's not a true allergy.
There may have been a side effect like diarrhea or nausea.
Knowing whether it was a true allergy or not can save money too
because penicillins are often less expensive than other antibiotics.
Here's something to be aware of when taking medications. Those
drugs that could dry the mouth can also dry the eyes. Dry eyes can
be uncomfortable but are easily treated with regular use of a
lubricating eye drop.
Tinnitus is a sensation of hearing abnormal sounds like ringing,
clicking, buzzing or hissing and can be very annoying and
frustrating. Tinnitus sufferers should avoid smoking and caffeine.
Some people get some relief using noise -making machines to mask
the sound and the herb ginkgo has been used but doesn't help
everyone. If you are trying gingko, use caution if you are on "blood
thinners".

BLYTH — As farmers prepare for
another planting season they're getting
an opportunity to learn about grants,
programs equipment and techniques
that may help them.
The Huron Soil and Crop Improvement
Association hosted a production day in
Blyth March 22 to plant information in
the rural community.
A number of topics were presented
including a provincial office update from
Deanna Deaville.
According to Deaville there are three
big projects on the table right now.
The first is cost sharing for Huron
County on farm research and production
trials. Grants are available with dead-
lines approaching in mid April.
Deaville says the greenhouse gas pro-
ject is another focus. It's being looked at
to demonstrate on farm nitrogen use
efficiency when it comes to things like
tillage equipment. The goal is to find
ways to reduce N20, carbon dioxide and
methane.
The third project deals with two types
of equipment testing.
Nitrogen applicators, precision tools
used to apply nitrogen, are being tested
regularly. The applicators are now used
in Saskatchewan on wheat and canola
and in California on a variety of crops.
Bio -diesel fuel is also being tested to
see how it works in large farm equip-
ment. Researchers are trying to deter-
mine if it's more practical and economi-
cal; and whether it's a cleaner fuel to
use indoors for things like dairy and
poultry operations.
At far left, Pat Lynch (Head Agronomist
for Cargill), talks about cutting input
costs.
