Alun Thomas was in charge of the Good Friday evening church service. The Easter Introit was sung and passing of the peace by people shaking hands. Rev. Thomas gave the welcome and the announcements and led in the call to worship. The hymn, "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross" was sung. Rev. Thomas led in the prayer of confession and pardon, affirmation of faith in unison. The choir sang "It Was For Me" accompanied by the organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Rev. Thomas read the first les- son Isaiah 52:13-15, 53:12. Bruce Delbridge and Bill Rohde received the offering and Delbridge was the greeter. The choir sang "Christ Carried Your Cross" accompanied by the organist. Everyone sang the hymn, "There Is A Green Hill Far Away". Karen Etherington, Sharon Passmore, Judith Parker and Virginia Warwick served commu- nion. Psalm 116 was read responsively. Rev. Thomas told in story form and acted out Matthew 26:14- 29-30-75 and 27:66 which was very well done. Breakfast and church service Some 60 people partook of the Easter breakfast prepared by the worship committee and spouses. Dave Williams conduct- ed the church service. An Easter Introit was sung and everyone shook hands. Williams led in the call to worship (which was written by Rev. Richard Bott of St. Marys United Church) responsively. The Resurrection Story was narrated by Robin McKnight and the rest of the Sunday school mem- bers performed in front of a scene of the empty tomb. The opening hymn "Jesus Christ Is Risen Today" was sung. Renee Williams lit the candles and she and her grandfa- ther Dave Williams read the Easter liturgy. The choir sang "Resurrection Day" accompanied by the organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Parts of Psalm 118 were read responsively. Williams read from Acts 10:34-43 and the title of his easter message was "From a Different Perspective". The hymn "Celebrate the Easter Fullness" was sung. John and Ola Batten received the offering and were the greeters. The closing hymn: "The Day of Resurrection". Williams gave the commissioning and pronounced the bene- diction. Everyone sang the closing Easter chorus. There was a large wooden cross and crown of thorns with a white sheet draped over it at the front of the church. Personals Murray and Bea Dawson had 25 people in on March 21 for a send-off party for Ray and Alice Cann before they leave for Vancouver Island. Bea Dawson read the address and some of the people present roasted Ray and Alice. They were presented with a gift cer- tificate from Home Depot. It was mainly Ray and Alice's close neighbours and the New Year's Eve gang. All enjoyed some card games too. Quite a number of peo- ple from this area attend- ed the 34th annual friend- ship night at the Kirkton- Woodham Community Centre on March 19. Two men from this area—Jack Borland and Ross Hodgert—received their 50 -year Oddfellows lapel pins. Bob Heywood was master of ceremonies for the evening. Thames Road-Elimville women catered the meal. Jean Mastin of Richmond Hill spent a few days with her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Murray Dawson.
