Loreilei (Robinson) Lingard played the musical prelude on the piano followed by the responsive psalm by Norene Hayter and the processional hymn "Jesus Christ Is Risen Today". Pastor Elly Van Bergen gave the welcome, announcements and the call to worship. The Sunday school in worship was on Easter symbols. Pastor Van Bergen asked them all for signs of Easter. New life was men- tioned in which Van Bergen had a live rabbit in a box for all to see. Van Bergen's message was "He Walks With Me". Graham Laurie shared his gift of music and played the piano during the offer- ing. Sun., April 3 church will be in Varna with the cele- bration of communion. Sat., April 9 is the "Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner" by the Five Alive. Please sign up at your church. Varna Crokinole Club met for the final play of doubles last Tuesday evening. Players were paired up once again by drawing cards. Winners were Gerald Dearing and Conrad Sitter with 41 points, Bill Hearn and Bob Russell tied with Ivan McClymont and David Turner with 32 points and Abe Lietch and Betty Perdue with 22 points. The club will meet for the last time for this sea- son Tues., April 12 at 6 p.m. at the White Carnation for din- ner. There will be some play- ers competing in a tour- nament in St. Jacobs on Sat., April 2 and also a team of four will be com- peting in the Joseph Schneider Haus in Kitchener. Good luck to those members. Shufflers met last Thursday. Charles Reid and Elmer Hayter tied with 337 points each, Wes McBride 312, Bernice Reid 256 and Sheila Davies 242. Shufflers will meet for the last time this season Thurs., March 31. Congratulations to great-grandparents Bruce and Anna Keys on the birth of their great-grand- son. Congratulations to grandparents Eric and Sharon Chuter of the birth of their grandson, son of Sherry and Craig Rollings. Thurs., April 7 the UCW will meet at the Varna church at 7:30 p.m. for a mystery tour. Tues., April 5 the Stan Lee Club will meet at 2 p.m. at the Complex. This year the club is hosting the Zone 8 Rally on Thurs., April 21 at the Complex. Registration is at 11 a.m. It is required that the lunch for the rally be paid for in advance. Please be prepared to pay $7 to the treasurer at the April meeting. VARNA NEWS Celebrate 90 years of 4-H MIDDLESEX — If you are or were associated with 4-1I, come celebrate 90 years of this great program at a fun filled evening April 16. The event takes place at the CAW Hall at the 401 and Talbot Line (Highway 4). For 90 years 4-H has provided youth in Ontario with the opportunity to participate in club, coun- ty, provincial, national and international events. In 2004 there were 1,393 youths and 278 adult vol- unteers registered in Chatham -Kent, Elgin, Essex, Lambton, Middlesex and Oxford counties. The youth members took part in 4-H club pro- jects, everything from the traditional livestock pro- jects to exciting ones like canoe/kayak projects. The Region 6 Council, hosts of the "Celebrate 90 Years" evening, hope to attract young and old to this family event. The invitation is open to find the person with the most years of 4-H involvement. Current 4-11 members are invited to bring a friend and be eli- gible for prizes! Bring along any memorabilia you saved over the years, like those photo albums, project books or trophies. The cost for the meal and entertainment is $10/adult and $5 for ages 17 and under. During Christmas, $5 from the sale of each artificial tree is donated to the foundation to benefit local charities.An additional $5 is donated from Canadian Tire Financial Services when trees are bought with a CanadianTire Card or Options MasterCard.This year,the program raised more than $1.1 million for families across Canada, and has raised more than $5 million since it started.
