Students walking
for Jesse's Journey
EXETER — Four South Huron District
High School students will walk for Jesse's
Journey Friday.
All four are student council members —
Grade 10 student Kyle Case, Grade 11
students Samantha Ainge and Jesiqua
Rapley and Grade 12 student Vicki
Hartman will walk from Clandeboye to
London April 1.
The original Jesse's Journey was the
first major fundraising event for the
Foundation for Gene and Cell Therapy.
Jesse's Journey actually turned into two
events, both based on walking and aimed
at fundraising and awareness.
A large part of the media attention dur-
ing these two Journeys focused on the
distance covered each day. Crossing
Canada, John Davidson logged a distance
of 33 km every day he was on the road.
That distance figure has become a focal
point for the current fundraising event.
The Compass Walk salutes the magic of
the daily 33 km accomplishment. Young
boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
and their families along with volunteers
will be walking that distance to appreci-
ate what can be accomplished in a day.
The Compass Walk is well named as
north, south, east and west teams con-
verge on a central point in the communi-
ty
For the Compass Walk 2005, the teams
will be made up of 25 members. Each
team member will work toward raising
$1,000 in pledges.
This will help Jesse's Journey reach its
ultimate goal of building the Jesse
Davidson Endowment to fund to a point
that it will generate $1 million for
research every year forever.
There will be jars around Exeter and
Grand Bend for people to donate to the
cause.
For more information and questions
about where you can donate, contact
Jesiqua Rapley, 238-6594, or teacher
Lori Black at South Huron District High
School school, 235-0880.
