"This investment will help to protect workers at our hospitals by mak- ing safer nee- dles and med- ical equipment available," Mitchell said in a press release. "This is vital to reducing the number of injuries and infectious dis- ease transmis- sion among our front-line work- ers." This is part of an overall investment by the McGuinty govern- ment of $11.6 million to help hospitals move away from needles, where appropriate, by supporting more top-of- the-line "needle -less" systems like newer IV connectors. This funding will also enable hospitals to buy blunt suture nee- dles to replace sharp ones, as well as replace glass blood collection tubes with safer and more durable plastic ones. "Our government rec- ognizes that nurses and other health care providers do vital work for Ontarians," Minister of Health and Long - Term Care George Smitherman said. "We are supporting and pro- tecting them in that effort." "This investment will help to protect workers at our hospitals by making safer needles and medical equipment available," CAROL MITCHELL HURON BRUCE MPP "Today's announce- ment is a reflection of Ontario's commitment to making workplaces safer for our front-line health work- ers," said Minister of Labour Chris Bentley. Last week's announce- ment is part of the McGuinty government's plan to improve health care in Ontario. The plan that includes reducing wait times for key proce- dures, creating Family Health Teams, increas- ing the number of doc- tors and nurses, and investing heavily in com- munity-based health care in order to ease the pressure on hospitals and deliver care where people need it most. The Clinton and Exeter Hospitals will each receive $6,000, the Seaforth Hospital will receive $11,500, the Alexandra Marine and General will receive $27,700 and the Wingham hospital will receive $ 14,900.
