topic in the post -Walkerton world, local
residents can attend a public meeting
next week to hear information on area
water projects.

the new community centre in Zurich at 7
p.m.
As South Huron Coun. George
Robertson explained at Monday night's
council meeting, Huron -Bruce MP Paul
Steckle and MPP Carol Mitchell have
been invited to the meeting, which will
discuss the need for federal and provin-
cial funding for the new Lake Huron
water pipeline that will serve Exeter and
Hensall.
The meeting will also discuss new
water projects in Bosanquet and Bayfield
and the possibility of a water purification
testing station at the Lake Huron water
station.
Green energy will also be discussed at
the meeting.
Other notes from council's brief Monday night meet-
ing:
Tenders over budget
Council will have to shift some numbers around in its
2005 budget as tenders for crushed gravel and dust
control came in over what the municipality had esti-
mated this year.
a hot
The 2005 budget is still in the works, but between
the two tenders, Mayor Rob Morley said the municipal-
ity will be about $45,000 over budget on those items.
Jennison Construction was awarded the tender for
crushed gravel with its low bid of $283,551.
For dust control, 552976 Ontario Limited
was awarded the tender to supply and
apply salt brine to South Huron roads for
the total of $75,460.
While there was a lower bid of $59,861
from another company to apply calcium
chloride to the roads for dust control, the
tender offered wouldn't have come close to
covering all the municipality's roads, so in
fact wasn't cheaper.
An emergency fund
Council has decided to provide a $5,000
emergency fund to the South Huron Minor
Baseball Association just in case the group's
project to erect lights at the Alvin Willert
Field goes over budget.
Coun. Pete Armstrong explained Monday
night the group has raised the required
costs for the project ($100,000, including a
Trillium grant), but requested the $5,000
"buffer zone" from the municipality in case
there are cost overruns.
So far, no tax money has been used for the project.
Armstrong said the group has to go ahead with the
project this year or they will lose their Trillium Grant.
Council agreed to offer the $5,000 if it's needed, with
Robertson saying the project is for the entire communi-
ty

The meeting, hosted by the Association of Ontario
Road Supervisors will see road supervisors, employees
and councillors from surrounding municipalities take
part in "The Road to Savings." Several topics during
the day will deal with preventative road maintenance,
which sees municipalities take care of their roads
before deterioration leads to expensive repairs.
