ZURICH — The Zurich Midgets are
down 2-1 against Belmont in their
OMHA Midget 'D' semi-final with game
four tonight (Wednesday) in Belmont.
Zurich opened their series with a 4-2
win March 2 in Zurich on goals by
Jordon Skinner, Josh Geoffrey, Chad
Snell and Mike Van Aaken.
Picking up assists in the win were
Justin Groot, Snell with two and Jeff
Mathonia.
Belmont evened the series with an 8-1
win Friday with Skinner picking up the
lone Zurich goal, assisted by Snell.
Zurich coach Kim McKinnon said the
team was never in the game and was
beaten by a hungrier Belmont team.
Back in Zurich Sunday, Belmont took
a 2-1 series lead with a 6-1 win. Picking
up the lone goal for Zurich was Snell
on an assist from Devon Bedard.
McKinnon said the team played better
but must get back to playing their game
to get back in the series.
Zurich will look to tie the series
Wednesday night in Belmont to force a
game five in Zurich Friday night.

STEPHEN — The South
Huron Novice Rep team
forced a game six in the
OMHA semifinal with a 3-
0 win Sunday in Exeter.
The win followed a 2-1
loss Saturday in Dresden.
Game six of the six
point series was Tuesday
night in Dresden.
March 3 the novice
were in Stephen against
Dresden and played to a
3-3 overtime tie.
They were paced by a
pair of goals from Derek
Elliot with one from
Brock Horner.
Picking up assists in the
tie were Elliott, Horner
and Cullen Mercer.
The winner of the
series will face Paris in
the OMHA final.
Lucan Irish versus Lakers
LUCAN — The Lucan Irish will face
the West Lorne Lakers in the Yeck
Conference semifinal.
The other Yeck conference series
will see Mt. Brydges taking on
Mitchell.
Mt. Brydges defeated Thamesford in
five games, while West Lorne needed
seven to get by Lambeth.
In the McConnell conference it will
be Hagersville versus St. George and
Tavistock going against Pt. Dover.
Hagersville defeated Langton in four
games, as did Tavistock over Burford.
St. George needed seven games to
eliminate Delhi as did Pt. Dover which
took seven games to finish off
Wellesley.
Once again the Exeter Hawks are reaching out to the community with money
raised from game admission and the ever -popular chuck a puck. Nine schools and
Zurich minor hockey are this year's big winners sharing $2,480. Accepting cheques
on behalf of their schools (from left to right) are: Sheona Baker (Hawks Executive),
Justin Reid (Precious Blood), Dwayne Laporte (St. Boniface), Carolyn Gower
(Usborne), Karen Brow (SHDHS), and Hawkeye (team mascot).

Panther girls at Huron Perth
EXETER — The South
Huron Panther girls hock-
ey team played in the
Huron -Perth tournament
Feb. 24 in Wingham.
In game one versus St.
Mike's the Panthers
played strongly for the
most part and took a lead
on two goals from Katie
Stewart.
But coach Heather
Strano said the Panthers
let St. Mike's back in the
game.
South Huron added
another goal in the second
and Stewart completed
her hat trick in the third.
But the Panthers gave
up a goal with 16 seconds
left to force an overtime.
Strano said the Panthers
played a strong overtime
but couldn't seem to put
the puck in the net before
St. Mike's did and lost 5-4.
Emily Sararas had a
pair of assists in the loss
with singles from Michele
Weber and Stewart.
In game two versus
Listowel, which would
decide who would go to
WOSSAA, the Panthers
took a lead in the second
period.
But again they allowed
the other team to tie the
game.
In a make or break third
period, the Panthers
allowed three unan-
swered goals to lose 6-4
and finish a disappointing
fourth at Huron -Perth.
Magen Overholt,
Stewart, Weber and
Jessica Bickell supplied
the offence with assists
from Stewart and Kristin
Ferguson.
Strano wishes good luck
to graduating students
Lea Mudge, Leanne
Cronyn, Shelby Musser,
Brittany Schroeder, Anne
Gregus and Kelsey
O'Rourke.
She added she is looking
forward to next year with
a strong core of players
back and great new ones
on the way.
Results from WOSSAA
held at the South Huron
Rec Centre March 4 were
Huron Park (TVRAA) tak-
ing first and going to
OFSAA March 21-24
along with Madill which
placed second.
In third was Listowel
and fourth was East Elgin.
