(photo/Pat Bolen) Celebrate St. Patrick's with Zurich GoldenAgers By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH — Glen and Marg Neeb returned home Sunday after spending five weeks in Florida. Daughter Bonnie Schenk spent two weeks visiting with her par- ents in Florida. Paula and Is LaPorte returned home from a weeks vacation in the Dominican. They travelled with friends to celebrate their upcoming 15th anniversary and Is' 60th birthday. Bonnie Schenk is happy to announce the arrival of her sixth grandchild. Emma -Leigh Schenk was born on Feb. 25 to proud parents, Kris and Jodi of Exeter. The bus to the Bank of Montreal in Hensall will leave from Maplewoods Apartments Fri., March 11 at 9:30 a.m. and from the main corner in Zurich. This is a free service. Lost A ladies silver necklace near the home of Claudia Martin on Goshen Street South in Zurich last week. For more information call her at 236-7099. The Lions Club are making plans to have their annual "Fish Fry" supper again this year at the Zurich Complex on Fri., April 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are now avail- able from Lions Club President Denise Hallam or Lion John Becker, Dashwood, also at Erb's Country Kitchen and J & L Variety Store. Advance tickets only. Lions Club meeting The next Lions Club meeting will be held Wed., March 9, at Erb's Country Kitchen beginning with dinner at 7 p.m. St. Boniface/St. Peter's youth group held their 24-hour fast in the school gym last Friday and Saturday with their leaders and help from some parents. Their next meeting is March 10 at 7 p.m. Congratulations to Diane Hess of Centralia who was the lucky winner of $1 million dollars recently from a Heart and Stroke Lottery draw. Diane is the daughter of Marg Clarke of RR 3, Zurich. There was a good attendance and participation for all the area parishes at the World Day of Prayer held at the United Church in Zurich. Lovely music was supplied by sisters, Grace Martin and Pearl -Ann Martin on the piano and organ. Guest speaker was Pastor Ann Krueger from the Lutheran Church. Refreshments and social hour fol- lowed the service. The students of St. Boniface School had a Skate-A- Thon Tues., March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Zurich Arena. They are having a carnival Fri., March 11 before the spring break. Cam and Cathy Steckle and Phil and Laurie Erb recently enjoyed a week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Mayor Bill Dowson and Deputy -Mayor Paul Klopp were among several area farmers who travelled by bus to Queen's Park in Toronto last week to protest in a rally. A men's breakfast will be held Sat., March 12 at Smiley's Pizza and Pub in Zurich at 8:30 a.m. sponsored by the Mennonite Church. Tickets are available from Jack Baker 236-4845 at $6 each. Zurich Golden Agers Come out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Zurich Golden Agers on Mon., March 14 at the Township of Hay hall on Victoria Street at 12 noon. Weekend offers worship, music By Hazel Davis SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT SAINTSBURY — On Tuesday evening Feb. 22 Hazel Davis and daughter Heather MacGillivray represented St. Patrick's at Perth Great Chapter meeting held at St. James Stratford. The May Great Chapter meeting will be hosted by St. Patrick's May 10. There was no service at St. Patrick's Feb. 27 as a num- ber from the congregation were ill with colds. A number of family members called on Hugh and Hazel Davis on the weekend; Hazel was celebrating a birthday. Happy birthday wishes go out to Travis and Starr Davis who celebrated their 16th birthdays Feb. 28—happy belated wishes. Suzanne Davis enjoyed the Yuk Yuks show at South Huron Arena recently. Courtney and Katie -Scarlett MacGillivray enjoyed a couple days in Toronto recently with friends. Starr Davis was overnight visitor with her friend in Lucan on the weekend. St. Patrick's held their fourth Sunday in Lent service Sun., March 6 at 1 p.m. The Davis family led in Scripture readings and focus was entitled "Seeing Things Differently." Service closed with prayers. Announcements Announcements were read following the service. There was an invitation from St. Stephen's, Stratford for their Anglican Church Women meeting April 24 at 7:30 p.m. with guest speaker. A letter of thanks was read from Bishop Howe, Bishop Bennett and Paul Rathbone, Director, Administrative Services for the Diocese of Huron regarding our over 100 per cent of parish apportionment in support of Diocesan budget for 2004. Also, a thank you was read from the Venerable James F. Dugan for the full payment of the 2004 Settlement Fund Challenge. Registration and brochure informa- tion for the 53rd weekend were handed out—a weekend of learning, worship, music and fellow- ship June 3-5 held at Huron University College in London. The 53rd weekend is that extra weekend of the year where we prepare for the remaining 52. Caleb and Corbin MacGillivray will be Youth Observers at Youth Synod of the Diocese of Huron the end of May representing Perth Deanery. Ralph, Joyce and Darren Simpson called on Hugh and Hazel Sunday evening. SAINTSBURY NEWS POLICE BRIEF Singing the Blues ZURICH — A thief entered the common area of a Zurich apartment building on Main Street and made off with equipment valued at $550. Someone walked into the complex on Feb. 27 thanks to an unlocked outside door..Police are trying to recover a Trayner Model 4200 four channel five band Equaliser, a Fostex microphone and two 20" black guitar cables. If you have any infor- mation that could help police in their investigation, con- tact the OPP or Crimestoppers. Bring along a sandwich or two and dessert and bever- age will be supplied by the committee. President is Lottie Grenier. There will be a slide presentation by Glena Olcen from one of her trips. There is no admission and everyone is welcome to attend. The next progressive euchre card game will be held Mon., March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Township Hall. Cost is $3 at the door. It was a big weekend for hockey at the Zurich Bluewater Complex. The Old Timers Tournament was held from Thursday night to Sunday. Everyone was busy in the kitchen cooking food. The Sunday breakfast was delicious. The dance was well attended on Saturday evening. Pepper games are being played at the Hay Township Hall every Friday at 1 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. Cost is $2 with lunch provided. Pepper games are can- celled for March 25 as it is Good Friday. The Zurich Public School's annual Skate-A-Thon is Wed., March 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Keep saving your Campbell Soup labels. Early Years Program The Huron Bruce Ontario Early Years Program for children from birth to six years old along with their par- ents or caregivers are available free to our area at Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 15 the children are to wear something green for a St. Patrick's Day party. This group also meets in Hensall at the library on Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A special speaker will be there on March 22. The Early Years Program is held in Zurich at St. Boniface School on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There is no charge for this program and everyone has lots of fun. St. Boniface Drama Club students are busy practicing for their upcoming musical Grease. It is being held from April 13 to 15 in the gym under the direction of Dianne Miller, Teresa Van Raay, Harriet VanderBurgt and Sharon Stephens. Mark this event on your calendar. Welcome to Jennifer Middleditch and Brian Ducharme who have recently moved into the former Kipper home on John Street. Keep saving your pop cans for St. Boniface building fund.
