Caffeine in cola pop can add up if you drink a lot
of it per day. There is over 120mg in four cans of
most cola drinks. Caffeine does raise blood
pressure so if that's an issue with you, you might
consider changing to a non -cola drink.
Many people order salads with low-fat or no -fat salad dressing on
the side. Certain nutrients like Vitamin A, D and lycopene need a
little fat with them so they can be absorbed more efficiently. So to
get the best from the nutrients in your salad, mix a little oil with it.
March is "Help Fight Liver Disease Month". Last year, a Texas man
bought billboard space to obtain a new liver to replace his
cancerous one. He was successful but if everyone signed their
organ donor cards, this kind of extreme action wouldn't be
necessary. Have you signed your organ donor card?
The phrase "meta-analysis" means the pooling of many research
studies to come up with a common conclusion. The more people
that are included in these studies, the more reliable the results are.
For example, ten studies that included 500,000 people found that
those who consumed more than 1000mg of calcium per day had a
20% lower risk of colon cancer than those who consumed less than
500mg (from food and supplement sources).
This is one of those easy lifestyle changes that may make a
difference but don't start consuming mega -doses. Doses of 1000-
1500mg daily in divided doses is enough. Don't forget the dairy
sources of calcium.
