Women's Institute members enjoy banana bean muffins
By Grace Pym
ELIMVILLE — The Elimville Women's Institute mem-
bers met at The Gossiping Goose for lunch Feb. 16.
Following this social time they travelled to Muriel
Parson's home for their meeting.
Shirley Cooper opened with a poem, `Thoughts On A
Little Town', after which the Mary Stewart Collect was
repeated and the Institute Ode was sung.
The roll call was answered by giving an old weather
prediction. Secretary Marjorie Johns distributed the
Winter 2005 edition of the Home and Country publica-
tion and the Rose Garden, which shares news and infor-
mation on the Rural Ontario Sharing Education
(R.O.S.E.) Program.

cooking with memories
BY DEBBY WAGLER
I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE HOW SOME OF MY TEENAGE
SUMMERS I COOKED AT A CHURCH CAMP. I LEARNED A LOT
OF GREAT TRICKS FROM WORKING ALONGSIDE PEOPLE WITH
UNIQUE AND GOOD -TASTING IDEAS. I'VE ADAPTED MANY OF
THEM FOR MY OWN USE. I WOULD COME HOME FROM CAMP
WITH THE RECIPES AND MY MOM FILED THEM AWAY TO
LATER PRESENT ME WITH MY OWN RECIPE FOLDER FOR
WHEN I LEFT HOME. IT IS GREAT TO HAVE THESE RECIPES.
THESE PORK CHOPS WERE MADE IN LARGE QUANTITIES
AND ARE VERY GOOD. TRY THEM!
BAKED PORK CHOPS WITH GINGERALE
Take and trim off fat from 6 pork chops. Salt and pepper
them and then lay them flat in a baking 9 by 13 inch pan.
Mix together:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp.flour
1 tsp. dry mustard
and enough gingerale to make this thin. (At least 2 cans)
Pour over pork chops and bake covered at 350*F for 2 hours.
Uncover for the last 15 minutes if you like. Easy and super
tasting. Enjoy!

Recently several members met to review and update
the Tweedsmuir History Book.
Parsons, program convener, read two verses, 'New
Day' and `Looking Back' as well as a humourous
reading, `If a dog was your teacher'.
As February is national heart month she
shared many facts that made everyone aware
of the seriousness of the matter concerning heart
health. In Huron County 35 per cent of all deaths
between 1992-97 were caused by heart disease.
Approximately half of all Canadians are physically inac-
tive and 47 per cent are overweight or obese.
All About Beans
The second topic was 'All About Beans'. A tray holding
sample bags of 14 varieties of beans was displayed.
Later members chose one or two kinds to try in their
home kitchens. The samples were provided by the
Hensall District Co-op.
The information about beans was taken
from three excellent pamphlets from the
Ontario Bean Marketing Board. Many new
recipes were included. Everyone enjoyed the
banana bean muffms that were served by the host-
ess.
The meeting concluded with a sale of several items,
donated by Parsons for a fundraiser. Virla Allen will host
the next meeting March 16.

BRUCEFIELD — Bill
Baird is one happy man.
The 46 year-old labourer,
from Brucefield, picked
up a cheque from the
Ontario Lottery and
Gaming Corporation last
week for $100,000. Bird
had purchased the win-
ning Encore ticket from
Charles Variety in Clinton.
for the Feb. 12 draw.
"I picked up the winning
numbers slip and saw
that a lot of the numbers
matched my ticket, so I
thought I better take it to
the store to have it
checked out. I went in
there and said to the
clerk, 'can you check this,
I think I won some
money!' When it was ver-
ified I couldn't wipe the
smile off my face!"
Baird plans to pay off
some debts, buy a new
vehicle and take a trip to
Western Canada to visit
his daughter.
