Nighttime leg and foot cramps can be very
painful and can interrupt a good night's sleep.
Sometimes simply stretching the leg muscles
before bed can help. Try this exercise: stand
about one metre (3 feet) from the wall and lean into the wall,
bracing your hands on the wall and keeping your feet flat on the
floor. Hold this position for 10 seconds and repeat about 10 times.
An orphan drug is one used for the treatment of a rare disease
(defined by the World Health Organization as affecting fewer than
1000 people in a million). In the U.S. tax incentives and grants are
given by the government to encourage research and development
in these areas. There is no orphan drug policy in Canada.
Urinary incontinence in children can be stressful for children and
parents alike. There are some enuresis alarms on the market that
can be useful to help using a behaviour modification. The most
successful alarms are those worn on the wrist with a sensor that
snaps onto the underclothing. Success rates can be good with
loving coaching and encouragement from the parents.
As pharmacists, we encourage you to carry a list of medications
with you at all times. It's particularly helpful when visiting other
health professionals like your dentist and when visiting a walk-in
clinic, seeing a doctor who doesn't know you.
