There was a full house dancing to the great music of the band Sunrise. A delicious lunch was enjoyed. The Exeter Skating Carnival is Sat., March 19. Jim and Joy Hogg and Donna O'Brien enjoyed a couple of weeks vacation in Cuba recently. The fam- ily of Ivan and Marjorie Meidinger spent Saturday and Sunday in Niagara Falls. Marty DeGroot and wife Elysia with sons, Conner and Tucker have now set- tled into their new home in Richmond, California. Marty left the Zurich area on Jan. 3 to work and find a place to live for his fami- ly in California. Elysia and two boys along with her mother, Maureen Denomme and Marty's mother Brenda DeGroot flew out in February to help them get moved in. Sue Lavoie (from the grocery store in Zurich) along with friends recently enjoyed a southern Caribbean cruise. The annual Brother Bob bake sale at St. Boniface parish was a great success in raising money for India. Winners of the draws were Pat Meidinger (hand- made baby set); Evelyn Regier (teddy bear); Marie Gelinas (gift basket). Jared and Katherine Siebert and son, Soren are temporarily living with his parents, Dave and Ruth Siebert in Zurich as the couple have moved from Kingston and are looking for a house. Happy birthday Happy 65th birthday wishes to Ann Finlay of Dashwood on Feb. 9. Happy birthday to Julie Becker of Feb. 8. She cele- brated with her four sis- ters. Laura and Jim MacDonald of RR 2 Hensall are thrilled to announce the arrival of their twin grandsons David and Dustin who were born Jan. 30 to proud parents Rob and Jessica MacDonald of Windsor. Farewell to Mike and Julie Burton and their son, Charlie who have recently moved from Zurich to Exeter. The World Day of Prayer will be held Fri., March 4, 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel United Church in Zurich. Everyone in the area is invited to attend. The next free bus ride to the Bank of Montreal in Hensall is Thurs., Feb. 24 leaving from the Blue Water Rest Home at 9:15 a.m. and from the Main Street corner in Zurich by 9:30 a.m. The four Exeter Synchronized Skating teams travelled by bus to Peterborough for the weekend to a competition. They didn't come home with any medals but skat- ed great and had a good POLICE BRIEF Attempted theft at dealership EXETER — On Feb.8 at 8 a.m., OPP were called to Eric Campbell Ford in Exeter over an attempted theft. Sometime overnight a person entered the parking lot of the garage and went to a vehicle on the southeast side. The culprits then removed the lug nuts and hub centers on a white 1998 Chrysler Sebring. The person then pried on the rims on the vehicle. The person for some reason fled at this time and left the evidence behind. Huron OPP is continuing its investigation into this matter. If you can help solve this case call the Exeter office or call Crimestoppers. cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER I GREW UP COOKING AND BAKING SO I CAN THANK MY MOM FOR GIVING ME A GREAT LOVE OF THE KITCHEN. SHE WAS VERY WILLING TO LET ME EXPERIMENT AND SO I TRIED A LOT OF NEW RECIPES. MY DAD WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO EAT IT ALL AND ALWAYS COULD FIND SOME SORT OF COMPLIMENT! THERE WAS ALWAYS A STACK OF WELL USED DESSERT RECIPES THAT KEPT CROPPING UP AND THIS CAKE WAS IN THAT PILE. EASY, MOIST AND GREAT FOR ANYONE. MAYONNAISE CHOCOLATE CAKE I cup white sugar 2 cup flour 2 tsp. baking soda 4 tbsp. cocoa I cup cold water I cup miracle whip mayonnaise or salad dressing Put all dry ingredients together and stir. Add water and mayonnaise. Stir. Bake in a greased 8 inch square pan at 350deg.F for about 40 minutes. Cool and ice. Another option to icing is to put chocolate chips, pecans and/or toffee bits on top of cake for the last 10 minutes of baking and serve up the cool cake with ice cream. GREAT! • time. Their bus driver was Doug Erb of Zurich. Gil McLeod and Janet Hoggarth and two chil- dren recently spent two weeks in Orlando, Florida. They went to Disney World and toured several other places. The family of Lloyd and Edwina Cripps, of RR 3 Kippen returned home on the weekend after flying to Florida for a week's vaca- tion where they visited with friends. Brownies and Sparks The Zurich Brownies and Sparks hold their meetings at the Lutheran Church hall in Zurich every Monday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. Brown Owl is Sharia Ciupak and Vicki Wilder is in charge of the Sparks, with their helpers. Valentine's Day was enrollment night for some new Brownies. Feb. 20 is `Thinking Day' and a special service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church for them. The Brownies are to wear their uniforms. Their meeting on Feb. 12 was held at the home of Brown Owl Ciupak where the girls did some sewing projects, cooking skills and did some science experiments to earn their 'You Go Girl Technology' Badge. The St. Boniface Knights of Columbus Co-ed Hockey/Volleyball Tournament will be held Feb. 25 and 26. The Quilter's Guild will be meeting at the Hay Township Hall on Mon., Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to quilt, come anytime after 9 a.m. and bring along your lunch. The Chair of the Friends of Lucan Library, Claire Anderson, will be special guest speaker at the next Friends of Zurich Library meeting. The meeting will be on Tues., Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. in the Zurich Library. Refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome to attend. The Lions Club held their Feb. 9 dinner meeting at Erb's Country Kitchen. They enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Special guest speaker was Carol Gingerich who spoke on her experiences in Afghanistan where she worked for the International Blind Mission for the past 20 years. Lion President Denise Hallam welcomed Lions from St. Mary's, Waterloo, Grand Bend and Zurich. Lion John Becker read the minutes of the last meet- ing. Their next meeting will be held on Wed., March9at7p.m. BlueWater Rest Home news Today, Feb. 16, Harvey Smith and Friends are entertaining the residents at 6:30 p.m. Kate Fletcher will be speaking to the residents Fri., Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. about Missions in South Africa. Martin Gelinas and fami- ly will be singing and play- ing music on Tues., Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The monthly Birthday Party hosted by the Mennonite Church will be Wed., Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. Soloist Esther DeBoer is coming Fri., Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is wel- come.
