Group member Oscar De Los Santos explained to students how sound affects the mood and health of the listener. He said studies have shown music bal- ances the brain and is beneficial for hyperactive children and for those with atten- tion deficit disorder.Tribal Thunder, based in the Long Point and Delhi areas, has been travelling to schools, hospitals and nursing homes for about five years. The other part of Tribal Thunder's visit was a fundraising concert held at the school to raise money to start an instrumental music program at the school. Music teacher Monica Doherty echoed De Los Santos's statements that children gain many ben- efits from drumming. She hoped the concert would raise $4,000 for the start-up costs of buying a class set of hand drums. The program will start with Grades 6-8, and then probably move to the younger grades.Above are EPS students Brandon Dayman, left, and Mike Giles, (photo/Scott Nixon) uA'C'tea 215v - Pancake Tuesday was celebrated at Usborne Central School last week as students enjoyed pancakes for lunch, courtesy of the school's advisory council.
