Lay Pastor Val Hodgins led the service and the message was entitled `Come, Wait and Listen'. The lessons were from Exodus 24, 2 Peter 1 and Matthew 17. Unit 3 hosted the muffin social before the service. Lay Pastor Val Hodgins will be the speaker at the first Lenten luncheon at noon at the Lucan United Church Wed., Feb. 9. St. Paul's Anglican Church At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., Feb. 6, Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The message was about being guided by God's Spirit, the Light of the World. Rosemary Schaefer read the lessons. There will be no ser- vice at St. Paul's next Sun., Feb. 13. A joint service is being held at St. James in St. Marys, when Bishop Robert Bennett will officiate. An Ash Wednesday service is scheduled at St. James at 7 p.m. UCW Unit 1 of the Granton - Wesley United Church Women met at the church on Thurs., Feb. 3 for a potluck noon luncheon. Cathie Westman chaired the meeting which followed and was also the secre- tary. The general business was conducted and then Carolyne Walden gave a presentation on the his- tory of Valentine's Day. She also led a game about madness and numbers. GRANTON NEWS Granton -Wesley UCW Unit 3 met at the home of Cheryl Wright Monday evening, Jan. 31, with 18 members in attendance. President Irene Richardson opened the meeting with a reading: 'A Traveller's Guide to Heaven'. Elizabeth Garrett and Anne Pincombe led the program with the cen- tral theme of love. Garrett had a devo- tional, reading about 'The Winning Power of Love', and quoted from John 1-29, and 3-16 and Proverbs 15-1. Pincombe also had a reading on love and reviewed the heart health for women. Richardson then spoke on her recent trip to Africa, providing interesting and enlight- ening information on this region of the world. Lunch was served by the committee, assisted by the hostess Wright. Queensway to host Valentine's party HENSALL — Fun and Fitness started the week off at Queensway Monday morning with a good `range of motion' workout to get all the joints moving. The goal is to maintain and where pos- sible, increase flexibility. The auxiliary meeting was held Tuesday morning with volunteers pre- sent to discuss upcoming February events and also who is able to assist and when. Volunteers are absolutely essential to the quality and quantity of programs offered at the home. The Rev. Don Alcock of Bayfield Anglican Church led worship Tuesday afternoon with Belva Fuss as volunteer organist. Residents voiced appreciation for Rev. Alcock's message and Fuss' beautiful organ playing. Volunteer Marg Cole organized euchre Wednesday afternoon and a few residents also enjoyed playing crokinole. Later in the afternoon Julie Keagan, social worker, facilitated the monthly family council meeting. Queensway family council meets at 3:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month with family and friends of residents wel- come to attend. Mostly local news was discussed at the Thursday morning Coffee and Current Events program. In the after- noon residents gathered to bake cheese scones. The scent of fresh bak- ing drew a few taste testers to the bak- ing room to offer their expertise. Friday evening Jim Love, singer/gui- tarist, Lois Hodgins, fiddler, and Phyllis Deichert, pianist made beautiful music in the retirement home lounge. Everyone at Queensway offered their best wishes to Andy Rau who was absent due to celebrating his birthday. Coming events Sat., Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. Valentine's party with music by Audibly Awesome.
