(photo/ submitted) Plan to attend World Day of Prayer EXETER — Christians around the world will be focusing on the country of Poland during the annual World Day of Prayer service. Local res- idents are invited to join in this worldwide event by attending a service at 7 p.m., on March 4, 2005 at Bethel Reformed Church, Huron Street East, Exeter. This year's World Day of Prayer service, written by the women of Poland, reflects on the theme 'Let Our Light Shine'. The women of Poland greet all those participating in this service by saying, "Szczesc Boze" which means, "May God bless you!" Poland, with a popula- tion of 83 million, tries to balance the influences of the West and the East. Since 1989, when Poland overthrew the communist regime and became a democracy, the country has been transformed from a centrally run to a free-market economy. Most economic advan- tages benefit the cities, while many people who live and work on small farms in rural areas remain poor. Women are especially affected by a high unemployment rate, and are increasingly at risk from traffickers. POLICE BRIEF Oen liquor L BIDD H — A 22 -year-old South Huron man was charged for dri- ving with open liquor when his vehicle was stopped by an officer on patrol Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. on Mitchell Line. A case of Molson beer products was seized. Participants attending the World Day of Prayer will not only be learning more about this country and its unique culture and heritage, but will also be joining Christians in more than 170 coun- tries around the world and 2,000 communities across Canada who will gather together to pray and take action in soli- darity with the people of Poland. The World Day of Prayer has its roots in an ecumenical day of prayer organized by women in Canada and the United States in 1920. This event became the international World Day of Prayer in 1922, and Christians around world began cele- brating this event on the first Friday of March. In Canada, the World Day of Prayer is coordi- nated by the Women's Inter -Church Council of Canada. In this communi- ty, the coordinating group has representation from the following churches: Exeter United, Pentecostal, Caven Presbyterian, Bethel Reformed, Precious Blood, Christian Reformed, Trivitt Anglican, Thames Rd. Elimville. For more infor- mation on the services being held in this com- munity, please contact Jean Hodgert 235-0497. Capsule Comments by Ernie Miatello Adverse reactions can occur with any drug. These reactions for the most part are mild and can include nausea, diarrhea, feeling faint, skin rash, and sometimes mental side effects like depression. We will make you aware of the more common side effects of any prescription we fill for you. If something occurs later on during the course of therapy, give us a call. We will do our best to help. Smoking was first recognized as a health problem for men in the 1930's when a sharp increase in lung cancer rates was evident. There was not an increase in the rate for women because fewer women smoked in those days. Varicose veins is a common and quite harmless condition where one or more leg veins become enlarged. There are usually no noticeable symptoms except they can be a bit unsightly. Treatment includes surgically removing the veins. Spider bursts are a collection of small veins right under the skin that dilate in a cluster giving the skin a blotchy look. Neither of these problems are a risk to normal health.
