cooking with memories
BY DEBBY WAGLER
1 LOVE TO WORK AT EDDINGTON'S. I HAVE LEARNED SO
MUCH ABOUT MAKING SOUPS AND CREATING FLAIR TO A
MEAL! AT HOME I HAVE BECOME MORE ADVENTUROUS AND 1
LOVE TO EXPERIMENT WITH SPICES, SALSAS ETC. THANKS TO
JAMES AND DON FOR TEACHING ME TRICKS OF THE TRADE!
ONE THING THAT THEY DO AT WORK WELL IS
SOUPS... AMAZING SOUPS! THE FOLLOWING RECIPE COMES
FROM A MARY MOORE COOKBOOK WITH SOME
ADAPTATIONS (AS I AM LEARNING). THE SMELL ITSELF MAKES
YOU FEEL WARM AND COZY! THIS CAN EASILY BE A GREAT
SOUP FOR THOSE WATCHING THEIR DIET. USE SKIM MILK
AND SKIP THE CHEESE IF YOU LIKE.
CREAM OF
CAULIFLOWER SOUP
I head of cauliflower coarsely chopped
1 medium onion chopped fine
1 rib of celery chopped fine
2 tbsp. butter
salt and pepper to taste
water
3-4 chicken bouillon cubes or packets
1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese (old is great)
1 cup milk or 1/2 and 1/2 cream
Saute onion, celery and cauliflower in butter till getting limp.
Then add water to cover all the ingredients in the pot.Add
bouillon and seasoning. Simmer till well cooked. At this point
you can blend the ingredients with a hand blender or mash
with a masher to make a pulpier soup. Add cream and
cheese. Bring to just a boil and serve the soup. Use the same
manner with mushrooms or broccoli or a broccoli cauliflower
blend. Awesome!
Top four shufflers for
last Thursday were Ann
Drew 250, Ruth Johnston
239, Norene Hayter 231
and Helen Collins with
212. Shufflers will meet
again Thurs., Feb. 3 at 2
p.m.
Crokinole Club

Ostrom and Ralph
Stephenson with 35; Abe
Leitch and Conrad Sitter
33; and Charles Reid and
Betty Purdue with 29
points. The club will meet
Tues., Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.
Congratulations to
Kevin, Natalie and Tyler
Wynja (residents of Varna)
on the arrival of their new
baby son and brother born

POLICE BRIEF
Man
charged
with
assault
EXETER — On Jan.
10 at approximately 11
a.m., OPP officers were
called to an apartment
complex in Exeter over
an assault.
The officers learned
that a couple living in
the apartment had
both called after an
argument had taken
place between them
and more heated
words were exchanged
of what was going to
happen to someone's
property.
It is alleged at this
time the woman was
assaulted by the man
of the home. Later that
day the 37 -year-old
male was arrested and
charged with assault.
He was released with
several conditions to
attend court in Exeter
March 25.
