Some people are very sensitive to scents. Over
4000 chemicals are used in cosmetics and
personal care items to give them that distinctive
aroma. Be aware that these products can cause
problems for some people so use them sparingly.
The "statin" drugs were discovered for the purpose of reducing total
cholesterol and those bad fatty acids, LDL. They are now being said
to have effects on other diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. It's
easy to get caught up in the excitement but it is too early for
scientists to accept this. We must wait for proof.
It's interesting that we eat chicken because of its low fat content (if
we don't eat the skin!). But goat meat is also low in fat like chicken.
It's becoming more and more popular in North America since
people are looking for an alternative to beef and pork.
If you have an elderly relative or friend on medications, it's a good
idea that these medications are reviewed on a regular basis. Many
classes of drugs can be associated with falls in the elderly. These
include antidepressants, heart pills, narcotic pain relievers,
sedatives and many others. Reviewing this list with your pharmacist
and doctor can reduce the risk of falling.
