Belmont Jan. 21 at the
South Huron Rec Centre,
as the Hawks kept pace
with the Lucan Irish for
first place in the confer-
ence.
The Hawks have a 20-
10-2-1 record for 43
points, two back of the
Irish for first overall in

Stuckless with four
points.
Exeter coach Derek
Macnair said the team
was more aggressive
than it had been in pre-
vious games.
"We played with
a little bit of edge,
and I like that. We
didn't have that
when we played
in Parkhill."
"It was a well
rounded effort.
We played sound
defensively in our
own end and did
n't give up too
many scoring
chances."
The Hawks were down
a man on a penalty in
the first minute of the
game, but Exeter was

scoring with a short-
handed marker just nine

Hogg ready for
spring ball season
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — After a fall
term of rehabilitation
and conditioning,
Exeter pitcher Terry
Hogg is looking forward
to getting back on the
mound this spring at
Graceland University in
Lamoni, Iowa.
Hogg, a chemistry
major at the university,
was suffering from
rotator cuff problems at
the beginning of the
school year and was
put on a rehab
and conditioning
program by the
team.
Hogg said by
the time the
injury had
healed, he was
only able to get
into the last
inning of the
Graceland world Terry
series.
Although he said he
expected to get hit
hard, it went well and
the coaches were happy
with his progress,
telling him to keep
working hard.
Academically, Hogg
has also been doing
well, with a 4.0 average
that he said he was
shocked at, although he
has worked hard at his
studies.
With the conditioning
he has done on his own
and with the team,
Hogg said he is
stronger than before,
and has added five
miles per hour to his
pitching speed.
He has also improved
parts of his game such
as pickoffs and defen-
sive positioning and
says the coaches are
telling him "to just keep
doing what you're
doing."
The coaches, accord-
ing to Hogg, are strict
and push the players
hard, especially on con-
ditioning, building up
muscles they normally
wouldn't use.
"If they saw us not
doing something, they
would snap. It hurts us,
but it also helps, build-
ing us up physically and
mentally."
When his rotator cuff
was examined by the
team in the fall,
Hogg said he
worried "they
might be get-
ting damaged
goods."
But after the
rehab, he said
it is much bet-
ter and he is
feeling no pain
Hogg in it.
With the first
game of the season in
mid February, Hogg
said the team will be
practicing in the cages
and tunnels as soon as
the winter break ends.
"I'm dying to get out
and play,"said Hogg.
"I want to make an
impact the first year so
they'll keep me
around."
Along with the physi-
cal demands imposed
by the coaching staff,
Hogg said they also
push the players to
challenge themselves.
He said the coaches
tell them there are
players vying for their
spots every minute and
he listens when they
tell the team to "bust
their ass. You have an
opportunity, don't
waste it."
