Questions about portraits lead search for Ehlers family
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
ZURICH — Does the last
name "Ehlers" mean any-
thing to you? If so,
Zurich's Ken Fenwick
wants to hear from you.
Fenwick has discovered
two portraits and one fam-
ily photograph in his attic
dating more than 100
years old. Simply, he
wants to return the histor-
ical items to their rightful
owners.
The name "Mrs. H.
Ehlers" appears in pencil
on the back of the two por-
traits, as does the date
"Dec. 30, 1902." All three
items are in impressive
condition, especially given
their age and the fact
they've been sitting in an
attic.
Fenwick moved into his
Goshen Line home in
1975. He saw the items in
question in the 1980s
when he did renovations,
but set them aside and left
them in the attic. About six
months ago, he re -discov-
ered the items and decid-
ed to find who they belong
to. He's not trying to sell
the items, he just wants to
see descendants of the
family get them back.
Fenwick has asked other
longtime Zurich residents
about the name "Ehlers,"
and nobody is familiar
with it.
If you know anything
Zurich's Ken Fenwick recently found the old photo pictured above as well as the
portrait to the right (and another) in his Goshen Line attic. The only identifica-
tion on the items is the name "Mrs. H. Ehlers" and the date "Dec. 30, 1902:'
Fenwick is looking for descendants of the family so he can return the items to
them.The items have been well-preserved.

Queensway Retirement
Home women enjoyed a
delicious luncheon
Thursday afternoon and
welcomed special speaker
Valerie Bachert who
talked about the work
being done in Nicaragua
to provide assistance to
the people there.
Following the luncheon,
residents—with direction
from Retirement Home
Director Maxine Curry—
began their project of
sewing flannel diapers.
These diapers will be
included in the packages
of supplies distributed to
women in Nicaragua
when their babies are
born. Residents said it is a
good use of flannel sheets
no longer in circulation at
the home. Their goal is to
provide 100 diapers for
this project.

Fence destroyed ... again
EXETER — On Jan. 15 at approximately :45 p.m., a
resident from Main Street in Exeter reported property
damage.
The victim told police that a single set of tracks left in
the snow walked around the home to the backyard. The
tracks led to a decorative cedar -landscaping fence.
The fence was destroyed and the tracks then led back
to a roadway where they were lost. The owner has indi-
cated that in the last six months the fence has been
destroyed four times.
The Huron OPP is looking for assistance in finding the
person responsible for this damage. If you have infor-
mation about this case call the Exeter OPP office or con-
tact Crimestoppers.
