Year of the Veteran in 2005 OTTAWA - In response to the federal govern- ment's declaration of 2005 as the Year of the Veteran, The War Amps is 'first off the mark' with a music video in honour of this special year. Running one hour, it features the songwriters who have contributed their talents to produce music to accompany The War Amps World War II military heritage docu- mentaries, which have won many international awards. Songwriters and musi- cians featured include John McDermott, Wendy West and Barry Campbell, as well as Robin Moir and Joe Turner, who wrote and sang The War Amps `NEVER AGAIN!' theme song. Also included is 'Are You Really There?', writ- ten by George Blackburn, well-known throughout Canada for his three best- selling books about his wartime experiences. The War Amps, which began by providing employment for World War I veterans and whose mandate will continue under Operation Legacy, which teaches youth about war, has played an integral part in both of the last two major wars and in Korea, its members coming home with visible reminders of the cost of battle. The War Amps has dis- tributed this production, free of charge, to regular, specialty and community channels as a tribute to those who paid the supreme sacrifice, and to their loved ones back home. Like all War Amps productions, it was funded by corporate donations and is available at a cost - recovery price of $12 by calling 1-800-250-3030.
