Prayer service for tsunami victims Jan. 21 in Lucan

GRANTON — At the
Granton -Wesley United
Church Sun., Jan. 16, Lay
Pastor Val Hodgins enti-
tled the message `Will You
Come?'. The lessons were
from Isaiah 49, 1
Corinthians 1 and John 1.
Michelle McBurney lit the
Christ Candle. The
Ministry of Music was `I
Shall Not Be Moved.'
The congregation of
Granton Wesley extends
sympathy to Ron
McBurney, Gail Sinclair
and family in the death of
McBurney's father whose
funeral was held Jan. 15.
The muffin socials con-
tinue on Thurs., Jan. 20 at
10 a.m. at the church.
On Sat., Jan. 22 the
Youth Group is sponsoring
a potluck supper and
games night at the church
commencing at 5:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome.
A prayer service for the
tsunami disaster victims
will be held at Lucan
United Church Fri., Jan.
21 at 7:30 p.m.
The date of the annual
meeting at Granton
Wesley United Church has
been changed to Sun., Jan.
30 with lunch, following
the 10 a.m. service.
The Granton Wesley
United Church UCW exec-
utive met at the home of
president Margaret Bryan
to discuss the schedule for
2005.
Granton -Wesley UCW
members of Unit 1 met at
the church on Jan. 13 at
noon for a soup and sand-
wich luncheon. Cathie
Westman chaired the
meeting and opened with
readings `Coming in from
the Cold' and `Sliding into
2005.'
During the business, it
was noted that the Lenten
Luncheons begin Feb. 9.
Also the UCW General
Meeting is scheduled for
April 12 with Unit 1 in
charge. Other upcoming
events were announced.
Lay Pastor Val Hodgins
presented the program
and Madeline Hardie con-
ducted a brain teaser
game. Plans were made
for the next meeting Feb.
3 at the church.

Church in Kirkton Sun.,
Hensall UC looking for old blue jeans

HENSALL CORRESPONDENT
HENSALL — The annual meeting of
Carmel Presbyterian Church will be
held after church on Feb. 6 under the
direction of Rev. Gwen Brown.
At Hensall United Church,
Carol Carter was the organ-
ist with Donna Smale greet-
ing everyone. Lois and Glenn Hayter
welcomed the worshippers. Barbara
Westlake -Powers and daughter Jasmine
were the nursery attendants. Denise
Troyer lit the candle and also read the
Scripture. Pastor Fred Darke's sermon
was 'The Challenged by Baptism'. The
service ended with commissioning and
benediction.
Old blue jeans would be welcome to
convert into covers for use at camp.
They may be left under the coat rack in
the entrance.
A large crowd of relatives and friends
met at Hensall United
Church on Saturday to
celebrate the life of the
late James R. Sangster. Pastor Fred
Darke and Rev. Sharon Willis Whitwell
conducted the service. Refreshments
were served by the women of the
church. The sympathy of the communi-
ty is extended to Brad, Pat and Ralph
Holland and family.

celebrated the Holy
Eucharist and service of
Holy Baptism when Irene
Fussell of St. Marys was
baptized. Kathy Blackler
read the lessons. The mes-
sage was about how Jesus
helps in difficult times. A
time of fellowship followed
the service.
