Regional
wrap up
Millions in
upgrades
GODERICH — The
Alexander Marine and
General Hospital will
undergo $5 million in
safety upgrades this
year.
As reported by the
Goderich Signal -Star
last week, upgrades
include fire -safe area
partition repairs, a new
sprinkler system, a new
fire alarm system and
elevator upgrades.
Work will be done
simultaneously to limit
disruptions, something
that will cost $1.1 mil-
lion. A generator will
also be bought for the
new emergency sys-
tems.
A report revealed the
hospital had several
breaches and deficien-
cies and was not in
compliance with
Retrofit Legislation.
The upgrades will be
done by the end of the
year.
Campaign for
Truscott
CLINTON — More
than 4,000 postcards
have been received by
the Ontario Attorney
General's office in sup-
port of a retrial for
Steven Truscott.
The Clinton News -
Record reported last
week that people
around the world have
asked campaign orga-
nizer Mary Yanchus of
Guelph for copies of the
postcards to show their
support for Truscott.
Postcards are avail-
able at the News -
Record office and lon-
donnow.ca, an advoca-
cy site. The Web site
has the Attorney
General on record as
saying he takes action
on matters when 5,000
postcards are received.

Brucefield, Vanastra
and well systems in
Seaforth and

Expositor reported,

Pascal Arseneau,

also be in attendance.
At the Jan. 20 meeting,
CPF Ontario president
Monika Ferenczy will dis-

the cost of French

per pupil funding above
the Foundation Grant
amount ($311).

funds to transport stu-
dents.
French Immersion stu-
dents perform well on
Grade 3 and Grade 6
EQAO tests and help
increase the district
school board's provincial
standing for student suc-
cess. Research in French
Immersion over the last
25 years shows students
perform as well or better
than students in the
English stream with
increased abilities in
problem solving, commu-
nication skills, organiza-
tion, study habits, leader-
ship, independence and
cultural sensitivity.
French Immersion is an
educational investment in
the community.
There is exponential
growth in interest for
French Immersion pro-
grams in rural communi-
ties as parents realize the
future benefits for their
children in a global con-
text. Huron County par-
ents are much closer to
receiving equal access to
the French Immersion
education that their
neighbours are already
enjoying.

Five-year-old Zurich -area resident Stacy Masse decid-
ed to take part in a good cause by having her long
locks cut off last week and donated to Angel Hair for
Kids, an organization that provides wigs for cancer
patients. Masse, a Sr. Kindergarten student at St.
Boniface in Zurich, decided to donate her hair after
seeing other children in the area make similar contri-
butions. While she's had some trimmings in the past,
this is the first time she has had a significant hair cut.
