Grand Bend to celebrate
World Religion Day
GRAND BEND — This Sunday night Grand Bend
will join a growing list of communities in over 80
countries around the world to celebrate World
Religion Day.
People of all faiths are encouraged to come to the
Grand Bend Legion and help celebrate this special
occasion.
The aim of World Religion Day is to foster the
establishment of interfaith understanding and har-
mony by emphasizing the common denominators
underlying all religions.
By acknowledging the similarities in each of our
sacred faiths, a unified approach to the challenges
that confront humanity can be agreed upon, so
that it can be made to see the whole earth as a sin-
gle country and mankind its citizens.
To celebrate the event, an outstanding program
has been developed by a local organizing commit-
tee of volunteers, chaired by Gord Britton.
"Now, more than any time in Earth's history",
says Gord Britton, "can we understand the global
community we live in and the need for a unified
global approach to the world's problems. The
tsunami tragedy not only shows our material vul-
nerability, but also further ignites the spiritual
awakening of mankind It is heart-warming to see
a unified approach taken around the world."
The inspiring evening will start with a moving
musical performance. Next will be a dedication
ceremony to the tsunami victims, consisting of the
lighting of unity candles, by nine area youths.
Spiritual readings by individuals representing
local faith groups will follow, interlaced with musi-
cal and dance performances. Refreshments will be
served at the end of the formal program.
World Religion Day, a tradition that began more
than 50 years ago, is held annually throughout the
world, on the third Sunday of January. It is not
affiliated with any one religious institution, and
neither solicits nor accepts any donations.
The evening is free — everyone is welcome at the
Grand Bend Legion, Sun., Jan. 16 from 7:30 to
9:30 pm for a "lovely evening".
