Hawks over Lancers and Bulldogs
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER - The Exeter
Hawks posted a pair of
wins on the weekend with
a 5-0 whitewash of
Lambeth Friday night
before doubling up on Mt.
Brydges Sunday evening
by a 6-3 score.
The wins give the
Hawks a 17-10-2-1
record for 37 points, four
back of the Lucan Irish
who remain in first place
in the conference with 41
points.
Exeter coach Derek
Macnair said it was total
team effort both games.
With the Hawks build-
ing 5-0 leads in both
games, Macnair said it
was important the team
keep the same intensity at
all times, "because they'll
get into bad habits and
the bad habits will carry
over."
Friday night the Hawks
started slowly with Jason
Stuckless getting the lone
goal of the period.
Exeter took charge in
the second, pouring in
four goals to build a 5-0
lead off the sticks of Tim
Bilcke, Justin LaPorte,
Stuckless, and Tony
Regier.
Picking up assists in the
win were Nathan Regier
with three, and singles
from Scott Davies and
LaPorte.
Also adding a pair in his
first game back in the
Hawks lineup was Justin
Knee, who added a pair
of assists in the win.
Macnair said while it
was the first time he had
seen Knee play, "he
jumped right in there and
he'll be a big part of our
hockey club."
Getting the shutout was
Justin Hayter who
stopped all 39 shots he
faced for the shutout.
Exeter went 0-3 with
the man advantage while
killing off all nine chances
Lambeth had on the
power play, as well as
adding a shorthanded
marker by LaPorte.

Bulldogs visiting, the

hat trick ina 6-3 win over Mt. Brydges. (photo/Scott Nixon)
Hawks built another 5-0
lead early in the third
period.
But the visitors climbed
back in the game
with three
straight goals to
get within two.
Nathan Regier
opened the scor-
ing for the Hawks
midway through
the first period
before LaPorte
took over in the
second with three
straight goals for
a natural hat
trick, including a short-
handed marker.
Larry Northover extend-
ed the Hawks's lead to
what appeared to be a
solid 5-0 lead with a
power play goal early in
the third before the
Bulldogs started their
comeback attempt.
After getting on the
board at 13:47 of the
period, Mt. Brydges
added a pair 20 seconds
apart for a 5-3 Exeter
lead.
But it was all
they would get as
Stuckless put the
game away with
just under six
minutes remain-
ing.
Getting assists
in the win were
Tony and Nathan
Regier, Knee and
Daryl Bourne
each with a pair,
with singles from Nesbitt,
LaPorte, Young and
Jamie Wolfe.
The Hawks outshot the
visitors by a 48-39 margin
and were 1-4 on the
power play. Exeter killed
off all four Mt. Brydges
chances.
The Hawks have a busy
weekend with two games

Macnair added with the
way the team was playing
it was just a matter of
keeping it going down the
stretch towards the play-
offs.
"Our goal is to finish
first in the conference to
get home ice. and, those
are games we need to win
and we're supposed to
win."
