• Emotions ran high Sept 30 in Hensall as 130 peo-
ple filled the auditorium of the Hensall Public School
for an update on the plan to deamalgamate the village
from the Municipality of Bluewater.
President Kay Wise said one of the questions asked
by residents is the amount of tax revenue raised
before and after amalgamation.
• Citizens of South Huron last week were given the
opportunity to hear about proposed changes to water
rates and to give their input.
Representatives of Dillon Consulting and Tera
Trends gave a presentation on their recommenda-
tions to council for the 2005 rates.
OCTOBER 13
• While there's no firm date yet, Exeter's Shoppers
Drug Mart will move to its new location at the north
end of town in the spring.
As previously reported, Shoppers will move into the
former Seip's valu-mart at the corner of highways 4
and 83.
• Kelly Maidens, president of the South Huron
Chamber of Commerce, will call the McDonald's of
Exeter rooftop his home again this year to help the
Easter Seals Kids.
Maidens will be on the roof for 36 hours or until
donations reach $4,000 with all the money going to
support children living with physical disabilities in
Huron County.

• The former Township of Usborne continues its
involvement in a study of 32 rural municipalities
across Canada, as well as involvement from Japan
and Australia.
South Huron Coun. Ken Oke reported on the study,
the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation, at the
council meeting. He recently travelled to Tweed, Ont.,
for a seminar on the foundation, and previously trav-
elled to Japan as part of the group in the winter of
2003.
• Tony Graham has been forced to tell his neigh-
bours he will be cutting off their water as of Nov. 15
due to legal and government regulations.
Graham's problem started when he attempted to
sell his home at 10 Chiniqut Street in Bayfield recent-
ly.
Graham's property has a community well located on
it which services users of the Centre Block Water
System.
OCTOBER 27
• It's a rare event when a cattle company receives a
$1.6 million boost from the provincial government.
But then again, the announcement of a project that
will turn cattle manure into electricity is not an every-
day occurrence.
The Lynn Cattle Company near Lucan is undertak-
ing the project, which will produce substantial
amounts of electricity — enough to power its own
operations and be able to sell the surplus on the mar-
ket.
• A two-day workshop last week has given South
Huron District High School's peer mentors a better
idea of what bullying and harassment are.
The workshop was brought to Exeter after SHDHS
guidance teacher Barb Poole attended a program
called "Beyond the Hurt" last May. Eventually, after
getting the OK from principal Jeff Reaburn and fund-
ing from the Avon Maitland District School Board, the
workshop was brought to the Exeter Youth Centre.
Eight of the school's peer mentors took part, as did
Poole and fellow guidance teacher Betty Janke,
Exeter Youth Centre program service leader Katie
Pickering and provincial representatives for the pro-
gram Karen Moore and Amy Woods.
