Hawks roll over Belmont 6-1
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The Exeter
Hawks took four of six
possible points last week
and fell just a goal short
after a four -goal third
period comeback attempt
in Mt. Brydges Dec. 13.
The Hawks have a 14-8-
2-1 record for 31 points,
with Lucan continuing to
lead the division and the
conference with 39
points.
The Hawks were down
early in the game against
the Bulldogs after giving
up a goal in the first
minute of play for the
only goal of the period.
The Bulldogs doubled
their lead in the second
and looked to be on the
way to a win after extend-
ing their lead to 4-0 in the
third period.
But the Hawks weren't
done as they fought back
with three goals in six
minutes from Jason
Stuckless, Joe Nesbitt and
Scott Davies to cut the
lead to 4-3.
The Bulldogs extended
their lead to 5-3 with just
over two minutes left.
But the Hawks weren't
done yet as Jamie Wolfe
made it a 5-4 deficit with
just over a minute
remaining.
But it was all Exeter
could get with a 5-4 final.
Picking up assists in the
loss were Davies,
Stuckless and Jason
Young each with a pair,
and singles from Justin
LaPorte and Jeff Smale.
Despite the loss, Exeter
coach Derek Macnair said
he wasn't too disappoint-
ed after the team battled
back from a 4-0 deficit.
"We made a game out

of it when we could have
just folded up."
The Hawks overcame
some bad bounces Friday
night against visiting
Mitchell to pull out a 4-3
win.
Exeter was first on the
board with a power play
marker off the stick of
Stuckless.
Mitchell replied with a
pair of power play goals
just seven seconds apart
apart in the second period
to take a 2-1 lead.
But Nathan Regier
evened the score before
the period was over
before the Exeter took a
two -goal lead in the third.
LaPorte put the Hawks
ahead to stay in the third
and just 20 seconds later
Dan Moir made it a 4-2
lead.
Mitchell added a goal
with just over a minute
remaining but Exeter
hung on for the win.
Tony Regier had three
assists in the win with
singles from Tim Bilcke,
Nesbitt, Moir and
LaPorte.
Macnair said he was
happy with the effort
Friday night and the
game wasn't as close as it
looked after Mitchell
scored a pair of goals sec-
onds apart both on lucky
bounces.
With Belmont in town
Sunday night, the Hawks
jumped out to a early lead
with three first period
goals and never looked
back as they cruised to a
6-1 lead.
Exeter was powered by
three points from Chad
Deman with a goal and
two assists, and goals
from Paul Denomme,
Davies, Nathan Regier,
and Wolfe.

Nesbitt and Stuckless
each supplied a pair of
assists with singles from
Smale, Tony Regier and
Wolfe.
Making his appearance
in Exeter's lineup Friday
night for the first time
was winger Jeff
Ackersville who was
picked up last week after
being released from the
Junior C Norwich
Merchants.
Macnair said Ackersville
brings speed and a good
shot to the team and it
would just take a few
games for him to get
familiar with the team.
