Two overtime wins
for Lucan Ilderton
LUCAN - The Lucan
Ilderton Jets climbed
into a tie for first place
on the weekend with a
pair of overtime wins.
The Jets pulled out a
3-2 victory Friday night
in Mildmay before tak-
ing on the Durham
Thundercats in Lucan
Saturday night and
coming away with an 8-
7.
Despite outshooting
Mildmay 65-15, the
Jets were down 1-0
going into the third
period but rallied for
the win led by Jason
Wilson with two goals.
Craig Black completed
the comeback with the
overtime goal.
Lucan Ilderton had
four goals disallowed
during the game,
including two in the
last minute and hit
seven crossbars.
Saturday night, the
Jets trailed 5-3 after
one period and 7-6
after the second period
before they rallied
again for the win.
Lucan/Ilderton tied it
with 30 seconds left in
regulation to force the
overtime.
The Jets were led by
Matt MacFarlane and
Rob Silver each with a
pair of goals including
the overtime winner by
Silver.
Singles came from
Black, Scott Phillips,
Adam Thompson and
Mark Phillips
Jets General Manager
Rob Andrews said
despite being behind,
the team never quit
and it was important to
see how they played
against one of the top
teams in the league.
Andrews added with
the amount of parity in
the league, if a team
had even one bad
weekend it could fall
several spots.
"If anybody had told
me we were going to be
this successful, I would
have told them they
were crazy...we knew
what was required to
be competitive by
watching Hensall and
Clinton and the guys
that had played in the
league before. We
knew the caliber of
players you had to
have."
With the Jets in a tie
for first place, Andrews
said they were no
longer being taken
lightly by other teams.
"There's no doubt the
word has gotten out
we're not going to be
pushed around."
The Jets will be in
Elora Friday night at
8:30 p.m. before
returning home to face
Tavistock Dec. 18 at
8:30 p.m.
