win consolation title
EXETER — The Panthers junior boys
basketball team hosted their annual tour-
nament on the weekend with London
Christian winning the tournament after
defeating Central Huron 60-35.
South Huron had met the London
Christian Pioneers in their first game and
battled in a defensive struggle to a 30-22
loss.
The team played well and kept a much
taller team at bay for most of the game
and gave the Pioneers their toughest
game of the tournament.
The loss moved the Panthers to the `B'
side to face Mitchell in their next game.
South Huron started slowly and then
began to pull away, making the final 38-
21.
The top scorers in the game were
Lachlan Macgregor with 11 points and
Shawn Morgan with six.
It was a strong team effort that put
South Huron in the consolation final
against Lambton Central.
It was a tight game but in the end South
Huron was victorious claiming the conso-
lation banner.
Tyler Knip had a strong game offensive-
ly scoring 11 points, followed by Ben
Hodgins with four.
South Huron played in a bonus friendly
game to end their day when a team was
unable to make it.
The Panthers defeated. North Middlesex
30-23 with strong contributions from all
players including Nick Jeffrey, AJ Miller
and Morgan on the offensive side of the
ball.
Coach Henry Bonsma said it was a good
tournament for South Huron, winning
three of the four games they played.
In league play the Panthers are 2-1 and
host St. Mike's today (Wednesday).
Senior boys
The senior boys basketball team com-
peted in the St. Marys tournament on the
weekend.
The team played a superb game,
defeating North Middlesex 62-49.
Tyler Robinson had 16 points, followed
by Eric Cosman who had a career game
with 13. Spencer Baehnisch had 12 and
Reed Ha'penny had 10.
Saturday the team was a little short but
played hard in losing to Parkside 70-44.
Matt Iredale had 10 points, Robinson
had nine, Sean Murray eight and Cosman
and Baehnisch each added six.
Jeff Thammavongsa also played well
scoring five points.
The team was even more shorthanded
for their third game but again played
hard, losing to Stratford Central 56-25.
Murray had nine points and Cosman
seven.
All in all a good effort said coach Terry
O'Rourke.
