Open house at Zurich libraryThurs. Dec. 16

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH — Be sure to come out to the
Zurich Complex to see Santa this Sat.,
Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. There will be treats and
movies, plus bags of candy and children
can give Santa their wish lists.
Remember to attend the Zurich Public
School Christmas concert Wed., Dec. 15
at 7 p.m. Bring a canned goods item for
the food bank. Also drop into the school
library for the penny sale.
Turn your Christmas Lights on
Saturday evening, Dec. 18 ready for the
judging by the Chamber of
Commerce who will be going
around the village to see all
the nice decorations. There are so many
lovely places; it will be a hard job to pick
the winners.
Nora Corriveau of BWRH Apartments
had her two sisters, Eulene Ryder and
Mary Ann Masse and husband Porky
from London, visit last week. They cele-
brated Corriveau's 91st birthday with
lunch at Erb's Country Kitchen.
Zurich Beavers and Cubs
The Zurich Beavers enjoyed going to
Victoria Park in London last Friday night
to see the Christmas lights and go ice
skating. They were treated to a winter
picnic supper, complete with hot choco-
late and cookies before heading back
home.
At the Beaver's meeting Dec. 15 at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church Hall 6:30 to 7:30
p.m., they will be playing board games.
Their next meeting will not be until Jan.
5 when they will be going to the Zurich
Public School gym in the new year.
The Zurich Cubs held their investure
night recently. Dec. 16 they will be travel-
ling to the Imax Theatre in London. Mon.,
Dec. 20 the Cubs and Beavers will be
going around town on a wagon singing
Christmas carols.
The Lions Club held their Christmas
dinner with their spouses at Erb's
Country Kitchen Dec. 8.
The Oesch family Christmas get togeth-
er and dinner was held at the Varna
Complex recently.
It was nice to have our daughter
Meagan home for a few days this past
week from Waterloo, as she was studying
for exams and helped to decorate the
Christmas tree while
here. She will be home
again for a couple of
weeks during the holiday season.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church once again
sponsored a bus trip to Frankenmuth,
Michigan, Dec. 11, organized by Glenn
Thiel. There were people from other
churches and places in the area that
went. Everyone enjoyed shopping in the
Christmas stores. The group left at 9 a.m.
and returned home at 11 p.m. It was a
great day.
May we offer our sincere sympathy to
the family and relatives of the late Esther
Gingerich who passed away Dec. 7 and
especially to her husband Harold.
Joe and Rose -Marie Regier returned
home last weekend after spending the
last five weeks in Florida. The Debus
family Christmas dinner and get together
was held at St. Boniface Parish hall on
Sat., Dec. 11 hosted by Doug and Julie
Debus with relatives coming from various
places.

meeting and mass for vocations was held
on Dec. 8. Guest speaker Mary VanRooy,
Exeter told us about a two-day bus trip
she is planning to Marmara (near
Peterborough) next May.
There will be a bake sale Feb. 12 and
Feb. 13 with proceeds going to India in
memory of Brother Bob Mittleholtz.
Membership dues will be collected Jan.
15 and Jan. 16 at the back of the church
and again on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23.
Anyone going away to Florida can pay
Janet Soudant anytime. Some members
will deliver Meals on Wheels from the
Blue Water Rest Home during the month
of December.
The league received a nice donation
from Blessings Unlimited again this year.
The door prize was won by Rose -Marie
Regier, a lovely poinsettia plant.
Everyone present could choose a hand-
made crocheted Christmas tree decora-
tion donated by Bella Soudant.
There will not be a January meeting
due to the weather. Christmas cookies
and squares were enjoyed and we took
turns recalling our favourite Christmas
memories. Our two Priests also received
their Christmas gifts.
BlueWater News
Some of the residents at the Blue Water
Rest Home enjoyed going for a bus ride to
Goderich on Dec. 15 to see the Christmas
decorations and lights. On Fri., Dec. 17
Esther Debier will entertain the residents
at 2:30 p.m. On Mon., Dec. 20, residents
will be making pies with Carolyn.
On Dec. 21, Community Living from
Dashwood will be out to play bingo with
the residents at 2 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. The
Nursing Home Singers will entertain.
The St. Boniface Christmas choir will be
at the home Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m. and
Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Choir
will sing Thurs., Dec. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
Anyone is welcome to come out to any of
these events.
Zurich Library
The Zurich Library will be having an
open house Thurs., Dec. 16 from 6 to 8
p.m. to help celebrate their 85th anniver-
sary. Friends of the library will make
some squares. Everyone is welcome to
drop in. Librarian Michael Dawber will
read the history of the library over the
years. Holiday closing hours are Dec. 24,
25, 31 and Jan. 1. Regular hours will
resume again Tues., Jan. 4 from 1 to 5
p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. For more informa-

Herb and Donna Klopp are home from
Victoria B.C. where they spent the past
couple of months.
Happy birthday to Martin Gelinas on
Dec. 13 and Sandra Desjarcline on Dec.
18.
NewYear s Eve
There will be a New Year's Eve dance
at the Dashwood Community Centre Dec.
31 with live band Rural Roots. Tickets
are now on sale in Zurich from Martin
Gelinas or Kenny Overholt—$50 a couple
with meal and party favours.
You will be right in on the action with
Zero Gravity Circus from Toronto on New
Year's Eve at the new Bluewater Zurich
Arena. There will be skating, stilt walker,
ballooning from 4 to 5 p.m.; circus shows
from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; ring in the new year
from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available

Busy Sunday at Crediton United Church
CREDITON — A number
of activities were enjoyed
Sunday by members and
friends at Zion United
Church in Crediton.
At the morning service,
third Sunday of Advent,
the Ryan family lit the
third blue candle, Kristina
Mitchell led the children's
message with part five of
the Legend of the Candy
Cane and the title of Rev.
Sheila Macgregor's ser-
mon was `Is Christ the
One?'.
In the evening, about 30
Sunday School children
presented a Christmas
pageant entitled, 'The Not
So Silent Night'.
The annual Christmas
Eve communion service
will be held Friday
evening, Dec. 24 at 7:30
p.m.
Institute meets
To celebrate the
Christmas season, mem-
bers, family and friends
enjoyed a delicious roast
beef dinner Dec. 9 at the
Huron Restaurant in
Exeter. After dinner, all
returned to the Crediton
hall for the balance of the
evening. President Anne
Cottel welcomed everyone
and read, 'The Secret of
Christmas'
A short business meet-
ing was held and mem-
bers agreed to have
Mystery Sisters again next
year. As part of the pro-
gram everyone received
an orange and Cottel read
a story about sharing:
Precious Blood Grade 7 and 8 students were sur-

help offset the cost of their year-end trip to Camp

POLICE BRIEFS
SOUTH HURON — On
Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. OPP
received a 911 call about
an alleged domestic
assault in progress on
Huron Street in South
Huron. Police say an argu-
ment broke out between a
married couple. While eat-
ing supper the male
allegedly became upset
and struck the female vic-
tim. He was removed from
the house and police were
told emotional abuse had
taken place over the last
few months along with
another assault and
threats of physical vio-
lence.
The 54 -year-old male
has been charged with two
counts of assault and one
count of uttering threats.
He was later released to
live with another family
member. He will attend
court in Exeter Jan. 27.
