HENSALL — The lighting of the Hensall
Christmas tree took place Dec. 3.
This event was hosted by the
Hensall Fire Department and the
Hensall Community Action Development
Committee. Rev. Fred Darke gave the dedication
with Jonathan and Kara Pearson of the new
Duttman Bakery donating cookies and the firemen
supplying hot dogs. The tree was donated by Andy
and Mariette Bilcke. This annual party was
attended by a large crowd.
At Hensall United Church, Agnes Bray was the
organist with Judy Mock greeting everyone. Lillian
and Lucy Beer welcomed everyone. Kathy Mann
and Warren Elder were on hand to attend the
nursery. Glenn and Lois Hayter lit the candle of
joy and also read the Scripture. Pastor Darke's
message was 'Give Us A Voice'.
Poinsettias in the sanctuary were in loving mem-
ory of Dave and Mildred Kyle from the Kyle
Family; Donald Munn from the Munn family; Mary
O'Brien from Pat O'Brien; Ron Mock from Kay

MacLean; Les and Elizabeth Riley from Sue and
Pat Riley; Mary and Leslie Hills from Les Hills and
Bill Gibson; Mary Kelly and Rob and Austin
Forsyth from Judi and Doug Walker; and Caroline

Society will be held at the Hensall Arena Jan. 11

Canadians catch over 100 million colds each
year. Some people catch four or five colds per
year and children even more. The reason for this
is there are over 100 different rhinoviruses, the
most common cold -causing virus plus another 90 o so other types
of cold -causing viruses. Pretty hard to escape.
For every 0.02% rise in blood alcohol concentration (that's about 1
drink per hour for the average adult), your risk of being involved in a
single vehicle crash almost doubles. Impaired driving is the single
largest criminal cause of death in Canada. Don't drink and drive.
Norwalk virus is very contagious. It is characterized by sudden onset
of nausea, cramping, chills and fever. The virus can live on surfaces
like bathroom countertops and sink taps so cleansing these areas is
important. Use a mixture of one part bleach to 50 parts water to kill
the virus.
A British study spanning 50 years proved that smoking can shorten
your life by ten years but quitting at any age can significantly reduce
health risks. The study began in 1951 and found that 2/3 of smokers
died of diseases caused by tobacco. These included lung cancer,
heart disease, cancers of mouth and throat and respiratory
diseases. A new year is beginning soon; a good time to stop
smoking.
