Marilyn Carter was in charge of the second Sunday of Advent and White Gift service. A new introit was sung and everyone shook hands. Rev. Carter gave greet- ings and the announce- ments. Joyce Fulton gave the council report. Rev. Carter led in the call to worship, prayer of approach and the affirma- tion of faith in unison Marlene Cunnington lit the first candle for hope in the Advent wreath. David Cunnington lit the second candle for peace. Richard Johns and Corey Smith placed shepherd fig- urines in the stable on the platform. Rev. Carter told the youth about White Gifts. The choir sang The Light Will Come accompanied by pianist Jean Hodgert. Parts 1 and 3 of Psalm 72 were read responsively. Rev. Carter read John 1:9- 12. Helen Weston gave a Minute for Mission. Everyone read the com- missioning and Rev. Carter pronounced the benediction. Everyone sang a new ending. Lunch: Janet Coward, Ola Batten, Fellowship will follow eucharist celebration By Hazel Davis SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT SAINTSBURY — Stevie MacGillivray and Suzanne Davis enjoyed the Christmas buffet and pro- gram Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lucan. Guest speaker was Donna Juergens from Ailsa Craig and Area Food Bank. The evening was hosted by the Ladies Guild. Ralph and Joyce Simpson of London and granddaughter Katie - Scarlett MacGillivray called on Hazel Davis at Thameswood Lodge in London this past week. On Wednesday, Davis called on Rev. Greg Smith at Christ Anglican Church on Wellington Road. Rev. Smith was a priest at St. Patrick's a number of years ago. Friday, Davis and her husband Hugh called on cousin Marjorie Davis at Kensington Village Retirement Home in London. A number of families in the community enjoyed the Christmas parade in Lucan on Saturday evening. On Sunday Davis attend- ed St. James' Anglican Church, St. Marys to cele- brate St. Nicholas Day with a Celtic eucharist at 11 a.m., Rev. Dalice Sim offi- ciant and preacher. St. Patrick's held Evening Prayer, 2nd Sunday in Advent with Katie -Scarlett MacGillivray leading the service assist- ed by Courtney MacGillivray. Suzanne SAINTSBURY NEWS Davis and Margaret Carroll read the Scripture. Katie -Scarlett led in prayer and lit the candles for hope and peace in the Advent wreath. Message and focus with theme: A new shoot from an old stump. Service closed with prayer and recessional hymn. Sat., Dec. 11 Rev. Stanley Jay will be at St. Patrick's to celebrate the holy eucharist. A time of fellowship will follow, weather permitting. Conservation Dinner gift certificates available EXETER — What will you be doing Apri114, 2005? Many area people will be attending one of the most anticipated social events of the year — the 16th Annual Conservation Dinner, hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation and the Exeter Lions Club. Conservation Dinner patrons enjoy a superb meal, followed by a jam- packed evening of auction bids on fine artwork, collectibles and a vast array of raffle prizes. Most impor- tantly, everyone plays a vital role in supporting worthy conservation - related projects. New this year are Conservation Dinner gift certificates which will allow patrons to give 2005 Conservation Dinner tickets as a wonderful Christmas present. If you would like to purchase a gift certificate for someone special this Christmas, please contact the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority at 235-2610. Tickets will be mailed to recipients as soon as they are available in January 2005. Tickets are priced at $45 each. A collaboration of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation and the Exeter Lions Club, the Conservation Dinner raises funds for barrier -free trail development, out- door education programs and many other activities for the benefit of local residents and visitors to the watershed. The proceeds from the 2005 dinner, will continue to assist in the stocking of rainbow trout in the Morrison Dam reservoir, support conservation education programs, maintain six Commemorative Woods sites and the new South Huron Trail project. The chairperson for the 2005 Conservation Dinner is Rob Reid. For those interested in contributing to the 16th annual Conservation Dinner, contact the ABCA. Committee members will begin collecting donations in the new year. More details about the event, includ- ing unique auction collectibles and exciting draw prizes will be announced in January. RIDE programs lead to several charges SOUTH HURON — Huron OPP were busy conducting RIDE programs in the county last weekend. On Dec. 3 a check was done on the Main Street of Exeter. At approximately 10:15 p.m. a green Ford pick- up truck was stopped and a quantity of open alcohol and a bag of marijuana was found inside. A 21 -year-old South Huron resident has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and will attend court in Exeter Jan. 27. Later that night at 11:45 p.m. a blue 1995 Chrysler was stopped on Huron Street at the intersection of Parr Line. Several youths were in the vehicle with a quantity of alcohol. Two youths from South Huron were charged with liquor violations. A short time later the RIDE stop moved to Morrison Line where a 2002 Chev Silverado was stopped at 12:15 a.m. The driver, an 18 -year-old male from Blanshard Township, was issued a Highway Traffic violation, a liquor violation and lost his driver's licence for 12 hours. Another RIDE stop was made on Huron Street in Exeter where a 2003 black Toyota carrying four people open alcohol was discovered. A 32 -year-old South Huron female was charged with liquor offences. Keep the Grinch out of Christmas MIDDLESEX — The festive time of year is upon us and Middlesex OPP wants to ensure everyone has a safe and happy time by decreasing opportunities for would -be - thieves. Provided below are some safety tips to reduce your likelihood of being burglarized this holiday season: • Always lock everything in the trunk of your vehicle while shopping. • Thieves will be on the lookout for presents, so don't leave them under the tree in view of the window. • If you're travelling, ensure a neighbour is charged with looking after your home by picking up your mail or newspapers and shovelling your driveway. • Purchase timers for lights, televisions and radios to give your home a lived-in appearance. • Cancel newspapers while away. • Lock away all your tools and lock your garage and garden shed. • Keep doors locked even while at home. • Never open your door completely to a stranger, use a chain lock.
