Santa will visit with children after Sunday's parade

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH — Please note that the turkey bingo at the
Zurich Complex sponsored by the Zurich Lions Club is
being held Wed., Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. The doors will open at
6 p.m. so come and get your seat and pick out the lucky
cards.
On Sat., Dec. 4 there will be a food drive in Zurich
organized by the Zurich Fire Department. You can put
your bag of donations out by the curb at your house
from 10 a.m. to noon. You can also drop canned goods
off at the Zurich Fire Hall.
Come out to the lighted Christmas parade in Zurich
Sun., Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. Anyone wanting to enter a float in
the parade call Vicki Wilder at 263-5343. Participants
will line up for the parade on Walnut Street at 5 p.m.
Santa will visit with the children at the complex follow-
ing the parade.
St. Peter's Parish/St. Joseph Catholic Women's League
will be sponsoring a Christmas party in the church hall
on Sun., Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Those going are asked to bring
along finger foods and non-perishable canned good
items for the food bank. They are collecting items for
the Huron County Christmas Bureau as well.
Don't miss hearing the Seaforth Harmony Hi Lites
(barbershop singers) who will be entertaining at the
Zurich Mennonite Tues., Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. A social
evening will follow the entertainment.
The Zurich Blue Water Skating Club are now selling
tickets as a fundraiser on four big prizes by the Ontario
Skaters Contest. The draw is held in March 2005.

Dashwood.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Lylyan Greb who
is recuperating at Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall.
Congratulations to Elda Bender of Blue Water Rest
Home apartments who celebrated her 90th birthday on
Nov. 26, celebrating with her family in London.
A girls' night out and get together was held recently at
Smiley'z Pizza and Pub in Zurich to help Jeanne Hay
celebrate her birthday which was on Nov. 29.
A family birthday party and supper was held for 12 -
year -old Kacey Rothenberg on Saturday at the home of
her parents Rosie and Jeff, with a few girlfriends attend-
ing.
Welcome to Zurich
Welcome to Zurich Bob and Denise Heighington who
have recently moved from Bayfield into the former
home of Dorothy Breakey on Bismark Street. Breakey is
now a resident at the Blue Water Rest Home. Also to
Carol Gingerich who moved into the former home of
Helen Geiger on Johns Street. Gingerich moved to
Zurich from Afghanistan. Geiger is now living at the
Blue Water Rest Apartments.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Sally Desjardine (Big
50) on Nov. 27. Also to her husband (Dino) on Nov. 21
and Ray Weido on Nov. 22. Also to Riley at the hotel on
Nov. 30 and Ron Oesch on Dec. 1. They all celebrated
together on Friday night at Smiley'z Pizza & Pub.
Congratulations to Dan and Shona Gracy of London on
the arrival of their first child, Lauren Danielle who was
born Nov. 23. Dan is the Grade 5 teacher at St. Boniface
School. The staff had a baby shower on Nov. 30.
Dog -tags for 2005
Dog -tags for 2005 for the Municipality of Blue Water
are now available at the office in Zurich. If any new peo-
ple living in the area are not on the list they can phone
236-4351, ext. 232 and talk to Bonnie or stop by the
office and pick up the form and information on cost. If
you do not purchase a licence before the end of
February 2005, the cost will go up another $10. The
dogs must have their annual rabies shot before they can
get the dog licence.
John and Marilyn Geiger recently returned home from
Columbus, Ohio where they attended a quarter -horse
show. They went on to Nashville for two weeks and
Alabama for a few days. Marilyn and John are moving
to Delaware. They will be missed by many of their
Zurich friends as well as those involved with horse rid-
ing at their farm.
Huron Ridge Acres Greenhouse at RR 2, Zurich,
Bronson Line, is having a poinsettia festival now until
Dec. 15, Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Blue Water -Zurich Skating Club held their
Christmas open house this past Saturday morning at the
Blue Water Complex. The winner of the draw for the
Christmas mailbox (which was made and donated by
Lea -Anne Ramer) was Vickie Ducharme. The winner of
the draw for the Tupperware Heat 'n' Serve (donated by
Sharia Ciupak) was Jana -Lynn Ramer. Doreen Dietrich,
Multipro, offered a door prize which was won by Margie
Deichert.
Annual meeting
The Zurich Agricultural Society held its 2004 annual
meeting Nov. 25 at the Hay Township Hall. There was a
good turnout to hear the committee chairs' reports of
the various events and competitions of the 2004 fair.
This year's fair had some extra planning and scheduling
because some competitions were held at two different
sites. Everyone had some very good comments and also
there were suggestions how improvements could be
made.
The financial statement showed that receipts and
expenses were similar as in past years. The society
thanks everyone who contributed towards the expenses
of holding a fair and to everyone who volunteered to
help on fair day. Thanks also to everyone who entered
the various competitions and to everyone who attended
the events. It was reported that approximately 140 chil-

This is one area of the fair that the society hopes to con-
tinue in the future to encourage the youth of the com-
munity to attend the fair. The Zurich Lions Club was
thanked for their donation and their participation with
the elimination draw.
The 2005 fair will be held July 22 to 24 with the theme
`Clownin Around'. The Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Convention will be held in
Toronto Feb. 17 to 19. There will be workshops, guest
speakers, craft displays and competitions for youth
posters that advertise fairs, quilts, cookies, and 60 per
cent whole wheat bread.
President Paul Klopp thanked John and Marilyn
Geiger for their participation and help with the fair for a
number of years. The Geigers are moving to the London
area.
Directors elected for 2005 were John Becker, Claire
Deichert, Carl Finkbeiner, Irene Hoffman, Leo Hoffman,
Paul Klopp, Hilda Lansbergen, Ted Lansbergen, Greg
O'Brien, Yvonne O'Brien, Sylvia Neeb, Kathy Robillard,
Carmel Sweeney, Joan Van Sligtenhorst, Anthony
Wilkinson and junior director, Amanda Neeb. The exec-
utive for 2005 will be president Paul Klopp, first vice-
president Hilda Lansbergen, second vice-president Joan
Van Sligtenhorst, secretary -treasurer Margaret
Deichert.
