Hammond a tenth of a second off
win at rodeo championships
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
ELIMVILLE — A tenth of a
second and a malfunctioning
timer were the difference for
Robin Hammond of Elimville
at the 2004 Dodge Rodeo
Championships at the Hershey
Centre in Mississauga Oct. 22-
24.
After making two runs in
which she placed first and sec-
ond, Hammond made her
third run.
But due to the timers not
working, Hammond had to
make a fourth run with a tiring
horse.
Despite the setback,
Hammond, 16, finished second
in Mississauga in ladies barrel
racing and fifth overall.
It is her first year in the
ladies division of the tour after
moving up from the junior
division last year.
She also finished third at the
Royal Winter Fair earlier in
November.
Hammond also is in the high
school rodeo circuit.
Although she said the ladies
division was tougher than the
junior division, with more rid-
ers and more competition, she
is looking forward to her sec-
ond year in the division.
While Hammond says she
gets nervous before an event,
"I focus once I see the barrel
pattern," and says she has
improved over the last year,
and doesn't knock down as
many barrels.
Hammond is coached by
Julie Forest and Ed
Dewetering.

with the way
the team was playing,

rushing into anything.
We're pretty happy with
the team chemistry ...
There's a lot of local
flavour there and that
has really helped our
crowd."

Ripley at 8:30 p.m.
Bluewater bowling
Grand Bend — Every November and December the
highlight tournament of the year in Ontario five pin
