(photo/submitted) Potluck supper in Hensall Nov 24 By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL — Hensall and Community Horticultural Society will hold a potluck supper Nov. HENSA 24, 6:45 p.m. at Hensall United Church. Everyone is welcome. Hensall United Church celebrated their anniver- sary with Rev. Charles Love of Bayfield as guest minister. Chuck Mallette was the organist with Mary Lou Hyde welcoming everyone. Lauralee Schnieder was the guest soloist for this special ser- vice. The ushering duties were looked after by Glen and Lois Hayter. Doug and Judi Walker shared the Scripture read- ing and candle lighting. Janice and Jen Alderdice were on hand to attend the nursery. Anyone wanting to place a poinsettia in the church should phone 262-2935. For Christmas baking, cakes, puddings, cookies, and mince tarts, phone Kay at 262 - LL NEWS 3231 before Nov. 28. The Christmas dinner will be held on Dec. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a free-will offering and everyone is welcome. Thanks to everyone who donated and attended the Hensall United Church Christmas fantasy auction Nov. 6. Door prize winners were Mike Campbell, Exeter (digital camera); Jerry Elmquist, Centralia (leafblower); and Marion Rider, Exeter (Christmas centerpiece). The sympathy of the community is extended to Luanne Phair and family on the passing of her father Floyd. Japanese social workers visit Lucan Submitted article LUCAN — On the after- noon of Tuesday, Nov. 9 The Crest Centre had the privilege of providing a tour and information ses- sion to a group of social service workers from Japan. The group, which came from a city about an hour's flight from Tokyo was made up of people who work in the areas of welfare, education, mental health, developmental ser- vices, employment and other programs for those with disabilities. The group is touring Canada to learn more about how social services function in our country. During their research and planning they had found The Crest Centre's Web site, were intrigued by what they saw and con- tacted the agency to arrange for a tour while in the area. The tour began with introductions and a wel- come to the group from Executive Director Barry Fellinger. This was fol- lowed by a viewing of the Crest commercial which airs on a regular basis on the NewPL and a power point presentation on the various programs and homes Crest provides in Lucan, Ailsa Craig and fderton. There was a brief overview of Crest's plans for the future and oppor- tunity to respond to ques- tions the group had. Thank goodness there was an interpreter along! A walking tour of the facilities on Highway 7 was than led by Director of Services Anita Bacon, and Manager of Community Mental Health Carrie Sutherland. The tour group had an oppor- tunity to view first hand the woodshop, greenhouse Truck blitz HURON — Huron OPP in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation Traffic Enforcement section conducted a truck safety inspection in three locations in Huron County. On Nov. 8 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. transport officials and OPP officers from the area set up inspection stations in Exeter, Goderich and Wingham. The officers inspected a total of 62 vehi- cles. Two vehicles were removed from the road while another seven remained at the safety stations until the repairs were done on the trucks. In total 38 charges were laid by members of the two combined forces. Huron OPP officers laid 20 charges while MTO officers laid 18 charges. The charges were laid for vehicles with unfit tires and brakes, transport trucks with no valid safety inspection stickers, two school buses with no valid safety inspection sticker, one school bus with no trip check list, one trailer with no brake lights, one trailer with no plates, one dri- ver with vision obscured, three with no trip check lists, one truck with no valid ownership/insurance forms, one trans- port with no plates attached, one trans- port with invalid trip permit, one with to many hours of work, equipment, two with weight issues others for driving with no licence and CVOR's missing. The tour concluded with an unexpected presenta- tion from the tour group to The Crest Centre. The Crest received a monetary donation as well as a beautiful hand made embroidered towel. This last and very significant gift was hand made by people with intellectual disabilities in the "Sunflower" program in the area of Japan where the tour group was from.
