Japanese social workers visit Lucan
Submitted article
LUCAN — On the after-
noon of Tuesday, Nov. 9
The Crest Centre had the
privilege of providing a
tour and information ses-
sion to a group of social
service workers from
Japan.
The group, which came
from a city about an
hour's flight from Tokyo
was made up of people
who work in the areas of
welfare, education, mental
health, developmental ser-
vices, employment and
other programs for those
with disabilities.
The group is touring
Canada to learn more
about how social services
function in our country.
During their research
and planning they had
found The Crest Centre's
Web site, were intrigued
by what they saw and con-
tacted the agency to
arrange for a tour while in
the area.
The tour began with
introductions and a wel-
come to the group from
Executive Director Barry
Fellinger. This was fol-
lowed by a viewing of the
Crest commercial which
airs on a regular basis on
the NewPL and a power
point presentation on the
various programs and
homes Crest provides in
Lucan, Ailsa Craig and
fderton. There was a brief
overview of Crest's plans
for the future and oppor-
tunity to respond to ques-
tions the group had.
Thank goodness there was
an interpreter along!
A walking tour of the
facilities on Highway 7
was than led by Director
of Services Anita Bacon,
and Manager of
Community Mental Health
Carrie Sutherland. The
tour group had an oppor-
tunity to view first hand

part of Crest's Community
Employment Services.
This was followed by a
tour of the group home,
Crestview, and the new
apartments in the larger
Crestwood home.
The tour concluded with
an unexpected presenta-
tion from the tour group to
The Crest Centre. The
Crest received a monetary
donation as well as a
beautiful hand made
embroidered towel. This
last and very significant
gift was hand made by
people with intellectual
disabilities in the
"Sunflower" program in
the area of Japan where
the tour group was from.
