Coats for Kids another huge success
CLINTON — This year's
Red Cross "Coats for
Kids" program was a
huge success.
Over 2,000 coats and
other outer winter wear
of all sizes were collected
at participating business-
es, schools and churches
in Huron County during
September and October.
In addition to the coats
collected, they also
received a generous
donation of over 600 new
winter coats and snow -
pants.
Oct 15-17, the six distri-
bution sites in Huron
County (Brussels, Clinton,
Exeter, Goderich,
Seaforth and Wingham)
distributed 943 items.
As a result of the warm
weather duing October
many people weren't yet
thinking about winter
coats, so an extra distri-
bution day was added in
Clinton at St. Paul's
Anglican Church on Nov.
6, during which 622
items were distributed.
By the end of the pro-
gram, over 1,500 winter
coats, snowpants, hats,
mitts, boots, scarves and
other miscellaneous
items had been distrib-
uted throughout Huron
County.
They had an over-
whelming response from
local volunteers who gen-
erously gave their time
to help make this winter
a warmer one for Huron
County families.
The ending inventory
after distribution will be
appreciated locally at the
Women's Shelter in
Goderich, the Salvation
Army Store in Clinton
and the new coats will be
distributed through the
Huron County Christmas
Bureau in December.

TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — Things
couldn't be better at
Village Vines Florists.
Since moving the two-
year-old business from
Hensall to Exeter's Main
Street, owner Natalie
Kerslake says business is
"awesome. We're so
busy."
Village Vines opened in
Exeter Sept. 4. Kerslake
decided to move her busi-
ness from Hensall to
Exeter because of the
higher traffic on Exeter's
Main Street, plus a good
location on Main Street
became available. She had
been thinking of the move
for a while, but wanted to
wait for the perfect loca-
tion.
Kerslake spent all of July
and August getting her
new location ready for the
September opening,
adding new paint, a new
floor, new trim, a cooler, a
new counter and lighting.
The increased business
at Village Vines has led to
some increased part-time
staff at the store — co-op
student Jaci Marshall and
university student Jamie
Reaburn have joined
Kerslake and her mom,
Joy Kerslake at the store.
Marshall will eventually
join the store full time.
Village Vines offers fresh
flowers and bouquets and
does work for weddings
and funerals. It also offers
artificial flowers, design
work, plants, decorating
and giftware. Kerslake
said all her Hensall cus-
tomers are still with her in
addition to the new cus-
tomers she has made. She
said people in Exeter have
been "wonderful" since
her move.
Village Vines offers free
delivery in Exeter and
delivery for a charge out-
side of town. The business
will be participating in the
town -wide Christmas open
house next weekend and
has a discount club, Petal
Pushers, which gives
members 10 per cent off
purchases.
