LUCAN — Don't miss the opportunity to tour Lucan area homes and support the
Lucan Area IIeritage Association in its fundraising efforts to build a new museum
commemorating the town's rich history.
The Country Christmas Home Tour will run Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a
cost of $20 per person, the self -guided tour includes taking in seven local homes as
well as a pioneer tea and dessert, which will be served from 1-5 p.m. at the Holy
Trinity Anglican Church on Main Street, Lucan.
On the stops along the way, people can enter the gates of Windsong Acres, the
custom-built home and landscaped horse farm of Bill and Paulette Loyens, on
Highway 4 south of Elginfield.
The fifth generation family farmhouse of Cec and Sheila Hodgins underwent
extensive renovations to preserve the living space for future generations. Take a
look at how family antiques have been combined with modern furnishings.
The ranch -style home of Gord and Ruth (Frost) Grice was recently decorated by
an interior designer and also blends antiques with contemporary style.
Tom and Mary Ann McLaughlin are also opening the doors of their 2,400 square
foot heritage home to the public.
Visitors to the home of Lowell and Donna Wells can expect to see a country
home with 'deep south' heritage colours and furnishings.
Another ranch -style home is on the list. The creative and artistic home of
Patrick and Elizabeth Dale features home-made drapes, quilts and wall hangings.
History enthusiasts won't want to miss the home of Jan and Barbara Brouwer,
which was built by Peter Butler — one of Lucan's first black settlers — in the 1850s.
It now features an art studio and many paintings are displayed throughout the
house.
