Exeter Hawks win two
of three on the road
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The Exeter Hawks picked
up two of three wins on the road last
week defeating Belmont and
Thamesford before coming up short
against Lambeth Sunday night by a 3-
2 score.
Visiting Belmont Nov. 3, the Hawks
took a 2-0 lead in the first period on
goals by Jason Stuckless and Josh
Liddle before blowing the game open in
the second period with six goals.
Scott Davies extended the lead to 3-0
just 20 seconds into the period before
Stuckless added his second of the game
with an unassisted effort minutes later.
The Hawks continued to extend their
lead with goals from Joe Nesbitt, Dan
Moir and Paul Denomme before
Belmont could get on the board late in
the period for an 8-1 lead by the end of
the period.
A pair of Belmont goals in the third
cut the lead but Stuckless's fourth of
the game and fifth point put the game
away for a 9-3 Exeter win. Exeter out -
shot Belmont 46-32 and went 1-5 on
the power play giving up one goal on
nine Belmont power plays.
Getting assists were Matt
Vlemmix, Nesbitt and Scott
Davies each with two and sin-
gles from Larry Northover,
Jamie Wolfe and newcomers to
the Exeter lineup Paul Denomme
and Liddle.
It was a tighter game Saturday night
in Thamesford as the Hawks needed an
overtime goal to edge the Trojans 6-5.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first,
Justin Young put the Hawks on the
board with 49 seconds left in the period
before Tony Regier tied it four minutes
into the second. The teams continued
to trade goals as Thamesford gained
the lead before Nathan Regier tied it
once again with a power play marker
for a 3-3 score going into the third.
But the tie didn't last long as the
Trojans jumped on the Hawks early for
a shorthanded marker to take the lead
once again.
Stuckless added his fifth in two games
at 12:52 to tie it once again for the
Hawks but again the tie didn't last as
the Trojans took a 5-4 lead with just
under three minutes left.
But the Hawks would not be denied
as they took advantage of a power play
to tie it with just one second left to
force overtime with Chad Deman the
hero.
Picking up assists in the win were
Nesbitt with three and Nathan Regier,
Stuckless, and Daryl Bourne each with
two and singles from Larry Northover
and Jamie Wolfe.
Cam Becker picked up the win.
Exeter was 2-5 with the man advan-
tage and gave up one goal on four
Thamesford power plays.
It was an another overtime game
Sunday night in Lambeth but with a
different ending as the Hawks fell
behind early, allowing a shorthanded
marker just under a minute into the
game.
Exeter got back in the game with a
second period power play goal from
Stuckless and tied it in the third with a
goal from Paul Denomme, who is
another addition to the team, but it was
all they could get before Lambeth took
the win in overtime. Exeter was 1-6 on
the power play and didn't give up any
goals on six Lambeth power plays. The
Hawks outshot Lambeth 43-35.
Exeter coach Derek Macnair said the
team showed a lot of courage against
Thamesford despite never having the
lead in the game but coming
from behind to win.
Macnair also praised the effort
of Stuckless. "We're a different
team with him in the lineup. He
brings two dimensions to the
game. The kid can score and he can
play the grind style."
Macnair added that additions
Denomme and Liddle are each players
who work hard and make things hap-
pen offensively.
Deman had a pair of assists in the
loss, with singles from Nesbitt and
Liddle.
Exeter has a pair of games this week-
end with Lucan visiting Friday night at
8:30 p.m before the Hawks visit Mt.
Brydges Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Friday
night will be South Huron District
School night at the Rec Centre.
Notes: As of Nov. 7 Joe Nesbitt was
tied for second in power play assists
with five and tied for second in defence
scoring with 11 points...Nathan Regier
is tied for first in rookie scoring with 16
points.

the first.
The only scoring in the
second was a pair of goals
