Glavin Collision Repair Centre holds grand opening
By Scott Nixon

BLUEWATER — The Glavin Collision Repair Centre
held its official grand opening Oct. 29, unveiling its new
addition at the corner of Parr Line and Hwy. 84.
The company has been at its current location since
1999, but added the collision repair centre about a year
ago. General manager Matt Glavin said the company is
doing well and wanted to show the community the ser-
vices it offers.
The new expansion to the business includes offices, a
frame machine straightener, a drive-through paint
booth, a drive-in estimating area, computerized esti-
mates and an appraisal area for insurance adjusters.
Glavin said the company wants to get its name out to
insurance adjusters and become their preferred choice
for collision repairs and painting.
In addition to vehicle collision repair and painting, the
company does sandblasting on bridges throughout the
province, something it has done for over 20 years.
Owner Jack Glavin started painting agricultural equip-
ment 26 years ago.
Glavin has 16 employees and has facilities large
enough to do work on transport trucks as well as cars.

Elimville WI learn about The Ugly Bug'
ELIMVILLE - The October meeting
of the Elimville Women's Institute
was held recently at the home of
Marguerite Butler. Seven members
and one guest joined in the Institute
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect.
President Shirley Cooper opened
the meeting with a poem entitled
`Friends'. Members answered the
roll call by telling the number of
years each had been involved in the
WI. Cooper thanked all who assisted
with the fall fair display, and the
London Area WI Convention.
Cooper commented on the certifi-
cate, the Scadding Award of
Excellence, presented to each WI
branch by the Ontario Historical
Society, in recognition of all past and
present curators of the WI's
Tweedsmuir History Books.
Mention was made of the WI Blue
Hats. Feathers and ribbon used to
dress up the hats display the tradi-
tional blue and gold colours of the
WI. This idea was initiated in May
by a I-Iamilton area member. Later,
a challenge issued for all members
to wear blue hats at all WI functions.
When asked, Why wear blue hats?,
there is an opportunity to tell people
about the accomplishments and
social aspects of this worthwhile
organization.
Program convener
Marguerite Butler gave
a humourous reading
`Remember When'.
She then introduced her
theme: 'The Ugly Bug'.
Butler spoke of different bugs we
have in nature: the bee, mosquito,
ladybug, and how we can be affect-
ed by them. Some bugs look pretty
while others look pretty ugly.
Many times when we hear of
someone who is sick, it is said they
have some kind of a bug. Everyone
has heard about antibiotic-resistant
superbugs; West Nile virus; SARS;
bird flu; and necrotizing fasciitis
(flesh -eating disease).
Butler spoke about Erysipelas.
Her interest in this disease came out
of the experience of a teenage
granddaughter having been diag-
nosed with it earlier this year. More
recently a family friend encountered
the same illness. Erysipelas is a bac-
terial infection affecting the most
superficial layers of the skin pre-
dominantly of the lower limbs but
may also affect the face. It particu-
larly affects infants and the elderly
but can affect any age group.
Most streptococcal bacteria
causing Erysipelas are sensi-
tive to penicillin antibiotics for
treatment. It is imperative to see
a healthcare provider as early
diagnosis and treatment are vital.
To prevent Group A Strep infec-
tions wash hands thoroughly and
often with soap and warm water;
get a throat culture for a sore throat
with fever; keep wounds clean and
seek medical care for infected
wounds with fever.
Butler's extensive research and
personal experience proved to be
very informative. She carried out the
theme by placing numerous fake
bug -like creatures around her
home. Appropriate serviettes were
used for dessert and tea time.
The next meeting will be held Nov.
17, at Grace Pym's home.
